Plenty of bang for the buck
Update 8/11: Highly recommend the Barton blue-on-red silicone band for this watch. Huge improvement over the original band (see photo).Received much faster than anticipated (ordered 7/15, received 7/26). Product arrived from Ukraine well-packaged and in excellent condition. From Amazon's product photo I assumed the entire dial was printed, so I'm pleasantly surprised by the raised and polished hour markers everywhere but the three and twelve o'clock positions. While some Vostok dials can be a little overwrought in my opinion, this one is understated, almost elegant. Dial alone makes it a keeper for me.Aluminum bezel rotates both ways with no click to keep it aligned with the minute markers on the dial. It also takes a fair amount of effort to move. While it looks nice and is not out of line for the price, bezel movement does feel cheap and chintzy. I don't see myself messing with the bezel much anyway and it looks better than most of Vostok's other bezels, so I'm not disappointed. Lume is nothing to write home about, either, but a non-issue for me since I don't buy watches for the lume to begin with. Screw down crown is a little wonky, but not as bad as anticipated based on videos I reviewed before taking the plunge. Seems to be keeping decent time, too, right in line with my Waveceptor. Frankly surprised by its accuracy, huge plus IMO.As others have remarked, the leather? band is hideous. Seriously, I could have done better in seventh grade shop and I'm not known for my nimble fingers! Fortunately, its a problem that can be remedied and it's the only reason I give the product four stars instead of five. Beyond that, I feel like I got a better deal than what I paid for, especially since it's at least as accurate as the Sellita powered crown jewel in my modest mechanical collection. Keep your expectations in line with the price, and you can't go wrong with this interesting and surprisingly accurate conversation piece.

Exactly what you’d expect.
This watch is exactly what you’d expect of a Soviet era Russian watch: indestructible, unrefined, quirky, and cheap. And after replacing the awful leather strap with an aftermarket bracelet, I understand why so many people love them. The watch has loads of character and doesn’t try to pretend to me something it’s not.Setting the time and date can be a pain with the wobbly by design crown, but the solution itself for protecting the movement is genius. If you do get this watch, just budget another $20-$35 for a nicer strap or bracelet. The SKX bezel has a different gloss level than the dial, but adds to the character of the watch. It’s been keeping good time at +/- 5sec a day. It’s in line with my other automatics and hand-winders.It’s not the best watch, but it’s fun and rightfully earns its place in my collection. You could do much worse for a beater watch than this.

Great story, great price!
I love the watch. It's quirky time-piece that catches the eyes of many. The story is a great one, especially for a sub-$100 watch. I had to change the strap because it was utter garbage but once the strap was changed to a quality leather, it wears great. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a watch with a story but is on a budget.

Nice beater-
I really like this watch. It is very quirky. It is mechanical and must be wound daily. It is fairly accurate. Setting the date is a hassle but there are ways to do it(see YouTube). It is bullet-proof. Not Casio bullet-proof but its tough. Put it on a NATO strap and its good to go.3 stars because I really haven't had it long enough, but I really like it.Prob gonna get an Amphibian next.
