if I can do it so can you!
My screen on my older 5S iphone got cracked when I dropped it kayaking. The phone worked fine but the crack was annoying and there were some sharp edges. Rather than spend $150-200 to have this repaired, a similar price for a repurposed phone or 4-5 times as much on a new phone, I decided to take a gamble and try to replace it myself. Why not? I watched the youtube video from JerryRigEverything. He walks you through step by step. I had a few issues I will share in case you find yourself in a similar circumstance.First, I am 58 and wear reading glasses. Some of the parts were simply too small to see even with my most powerful reading glasses. A magnifying glass did not help. So I had my daughter with good eyes help me on those parts.Second, the tools are not marked and for the life of me I could not tell what the different screwdrivers were, even looking at them with the magnifying glass. I stripped out the bottom screws trying to use the pentagonal screwdriver on the bottom of the casing. Turns out the blue handled one is pentagonal and the redhandled one is phillips and I have no idea what the black ones are. The kit does not come with any explanation of contents; that would have been nice to at least identify the different screwdrivers.Third, those prying tools are worthless. I got flaking blue plastic all over the space inside my phone and kept having to shake it out or blow it out. Heed the advice of videos and use a single edge razor blade for initial prying needs. Any thin hard plastic should work but these are thick flimsy plastic.Fourth, have a good pair of tweezers to hold onto things. I wish I had some flat sided tweezers like the ones in the video, but we made do with pointy tipped tweezers.Fifth, no matter how I did it I could not get the top of the screen to lie flush in my phone. I removed it and replaced it a few times, getting the top flush then popping the sides then bottom part in. The top always ended up sticking up a bit like buck teeth. Not enough to make it look abnormal, but enough that I figured it would increase the risk of breaking in the future and enough to look like it is a fraction of a mm too big. It has chinese markings on the inside, so maybe it was made for a different casing or is a counterfeit. I had to tape the bottom screws in place anyway, so I ended up using clear packing tape creatively applied to hold the top of the screen flush. Finally, this did arrive quite dirty. I believe it is the seller responsibility to have this packaged in a way that protects the contents. Mine came in a book like white box with padding and form fitting cavities without any plastic covering on either the screen or the box. That said, I have a phone that works fine and the screen is no longer cracked and I'm not worried it is going to cut me. It took me a bit longer than the 11 minute video, ok a lot longer, but it is fixed and that is money in my pocket. So if you have an older iphone and want to save money and try to fix the cracked screen yourself, I say give it a go. If I can do it you can too!

More in the kit the better - buy this one!
Wow, kit included everything needed except 10x magnifying glass, those screws are so snalll!!! Be sure to lay them out as you take them out because some are longer than others. The job should’ve taken about 25 minutes but I had to reuse my Touch ID button since the one included was a basic one and I ran into a snag. I ended up switching back to my old screen because new one didn’t work and ended up having to disconnect battery completely and then both worked. So, 2 hours for me. At first I was convinced it was the new screen based on what looks to be some shotty workmanship (pic attached). It looks like there are some exposed conductors in the ribbon cable that they missed with a bad tape job. If this screen fails I’m thinking that’ll be the cause. All and all a pretty good kit and I definitely recommend a kit with all the devices included. I can’t imagine just replacing the cracked glass when for less than $30 you can quickly replace it all. Four stars for now.

high quality and comes with a screen protector too!
i gave easy to install 5 stars because this product deserves 5 stars but it is NOT easy to install. These phone have the smallest screws i have ever seen and the parts are very precise and difficult to work with and place correctly. I would recommend that you dont install this yourself unless you are willing to spend an hour or two considering breaking the rest of the phone. this installation was a challenge but fortunately the product was high quality and gave me virtually no problems EXCEPT the ribbon for the digitizer (vertical plug on the left) was slightly to long and did not allow me to out the plate that covers those ribbons back on. ( i am aware that this may have been my fault during the installation )Overall, i am highly satisfied so far and it even come with a screen protector so i dont have to perform this tedious, painful experience again.

Upper portion of the screen doesn't respond to touch
I have an old iphone 5 I've replaced the screen 3 times already so it was great to save money trying to do this myself. It seems like the OS started acting a little funny after a recent update so the reason the phone is acting up might be attributed to that. The top row of icons don't respond when I tap. I basically had to slide all the apps I don't really use to the top row so my frequently used apps fell to the middle of the screen and below, otherwise they don't respond when I tap them in the upper 25% of the screen, or it takes several tries. Maybe one of the pins got bent when I tried to install it, who knows. Everything is so tiny the installation felt pretty hit or miss.Trying to attach the flat wires where they connect from the screen to the phone body was maddening. I think I had to put it down for a few days I got so frustrated and had to come back to it. Then it still took me about 45 minutes and really tried my patience. There's a reason you pay a guy to do this, it is tricky. I'm usually pretty good with this kind of stuff but next time I will pay someone to do this for me.It takes some patience and finesse. I guess it was worth it to salvage the old phone in case I need an extra gadget.

The Screen
The screen is really high quality and it almost looks like the original apple screen, unlike other screens in my opinion. I had a different brand one and the feel was actually bad and it was low quality and when you drop it without a screen protector, it will crack or when the iPhone slides. it scratches and the crack get's worse. This screen doesn't have that kind of issue. I have the Space Grey iPhone 5S and with the white screen, it looks fantastic.

You’re rolling the dice.
The screen is dark on the upper left corner. My neighbor saw the delivery person throw my package on to my porch. Not happy with amazons delivery. Also the fingerprint home button doesn’t recognize any kind of fingerprint. I get a notification that fingerprint is disabled when I restart the phone.
