How many pods does this contain? Box says 6 but contains 3 and the spacers

That is correct. This can get a little confusing as when growing flowering/fruiting plants such as tomatoes and peppers you cannot plant all six holes as you can with lettuces, herbs, and flowers. The reason is they grow so large and with proper pruning will take up the entire grow deck. We don’t want you planting anything else with them so we send spacers for the empty holes. Can I add different plants or replace the ones I have any time

Yes, you can replace the pods anytime you want. We, generally, don't recommend adding new pods to an Aerogarden that's had other plants growing in it for a month or more. It's just usually too hard to prune back the older plants far enough to get sufficient light to the new pods for germination. We recommend pruning only 1/3, or less, of a plant at a time to avoid shock. And, we recommend keeping your light hood 4-6 inches away from the tops of all of your plants, new pods included, to ensure that your plants are getting sufficient light for healthy growth. If plants do not receive enough light, they will not grow at their maximum rate or reach their maximum potential, regardless of how much of any other variable – water, growth medium, or fertilizer – they receive. Light is the driving force for photosynthesis, a plant process that changes sunlight into chemical energy. You can store any unused seed pod for later use. We guarantee the germination of our seed kits for one year after purchase from any authorized seller.

I just had the kit, how should I use the spacers?

The spacers are for gardens that have more holes than seed pods.

can the salsa kit grow in the older AeroGarden Model (9 spaces)? I don't believe it has the taller light

Pepper seeds take much longer to germinate

The tomato sprouts very quickly with little leaves in a few days. Pepper takes a long time to sprout. I gave up on it but leafy the seed pod in there and lo and behold, it sprouted after a month! Now they’re both growing very nicely. The tomato will take up all the space so growing one is enough for all 6-pod area. The peppers are smaller so maybe two can fit. Do not use all 6 pod slots unless you plan to move some plants out to plant elsewhere!!

I honestly can't believe how well this works.

I bought this for my girlfriend as a Christmas present. We use a lot of herbs and spices and are always going to the grocery store for more. This little son of a gun grows so unbelievably fast. If you plan to replant, make sure you're getting into the bottom space and keeping the roots under control. If you have all the pod spaces filled, the roots start to get intertwined. Not a big problem, just something to look out for. HIGHLY recommend this product!

Okay so here's how it went.

I bought these to go with my new hydroponics garden about 2 weeks ago with an herb garden and some salad greens.. I thought I'd start small and simple and then figure out the fancy stuff later. I'm a very casual gardener and this seemed simple enough to fit into my lifestyle. The tomatoes popped right up. Thats a 2 week shot of them right there. One is doing really well and the little one is on the struggle buss. The dud on the end.... is the peppers plant. There were two pods that I'd put into the system but when they didn't sprout at all I did do an autopsy on one. It was as I'd thought, no pepper seeds! The good news is that no harm no foul. Seeds are still 98 cents at the store and I'll grab a packet in the morning. I've already looked in the box to see if maybe they'd gotten knocked loose from the pod, but there weren't any. I'm sure for someone less adventurous this might be a serious drawback. I however am having a grand old time playing hydroponic farmer. :) I'll probably buy direct from the site next time seeing as amazon isn't any cheaper and its merchandise has become compromised and you actually have a wider selection of pod kits.
