Our shielded Cat5e RJ45 plugs are designed to be used with shielded (F/UTP) Ethernet cables, both stranded and solid conductors. The pass-through design is where your frustration level will come down and your success rate will increase. If you’ve ever dealt with the old style push-in or push-in with load bar plugs, then you know what we mean.

After stripping the cable jacket off, wrap the drain wire around the cable jacket and fold the cable shield backward over it. Untwist and comb out the individual conductors. Line up the conductors into the correct T568A or T568B color sequence and push them through the nose of the connector. Everything look good? If the wiring sequence is still correct, now pull. Use the push-pull method to help eliminate kinking of the conductors inside the plug and get the cable jacket up as far as possible into the rear of the connector. Using our Heavy Duty Pass Through Crimp and Termination Tool, crimp and terminate the plug onto your cable. Remove excess foil shielding at the rear of the plug. The conductors are shaved off, and the plug is ready to go. Onto the next one.

With heavy duty thick outdoor shielded cable exceeding ∅6.10mm OD, you will need to gently “ovalize” the end of the cable for the last 0.75” using the oval cutout in small/standard lineman’s electrical pliers. This is to size the end of the cable to fit inside the plug. Don’t crush the cable flat!

Use our 5" flush cutters if you have a crimper that does not shave off conductors.
