Everyday Life in the 1800s: A Guide for Writers, Students & Historians
I have been an American History buff for many years and I've read countless books that are antique and hard to find. I've been told by some people that I know more about American History than they do, and they took American History courses in college. This book has offered me new information that I didn't know. It's a great reference book. Indexed beautifully. Wonderful book. I'm really enjoying this book.

Exceedingly satisfied!
This book is extremely helpful to me. There were some things in it that I already knew, but a whole lot that I didn't. While placing my order, I was concerned that it might be worn out from the description I got, but when I received it, I was exceedingly happy that it had never been opened, it was like brand new. 😁

A fun and informative read
I enjoyed this so much. I gave it to my Mom because she is way into the old west. We loved it. If you like hearing about how people lived day to day in the past and the craziness of how things came to be the way they are this is a great source.

Different, interesting book
This book was fascinating. I couldn't believe how many words and phrases that we use today, came from so long ago, and I never even understood the meaning to a lot of them until I read this book. I'm not a writer, but this book would come in very handy if you decided to write 19th century fiction or non fiction. I will be able to really make my Wild West persona come alive now after reading this book!

The book was more geared toward city life during that era. I was looking for ideas on immigrants who when they arrived became successful by farming, by working the land not by speculating on buying and selling land. Also was seeking information on how people dressed and where they got their clothes.

An indispensable reference volume for writers writing about this period. That said, as one reviewer points out, it does have a heavy U.S. focus.

Accurate research regarding everyday life i. Mr. McCutcheon must have worked a long time researching fpr this book.
I like the completeness of the research that Mr. McCutcheon did for this book. Am learning how much I never knew about early everyday life in our U.S.
