Operation Bedliner
Over two years in the making. Goal was to color match my rhino jeep. I wanted some practice first.(much of this review stems from questions I had in my research)Started mixing battle ship gray and smoke black, eventually adding insignia blue. Very close but not quite. Close enough. Ended up with 1 oz. each per bottle. I call it "Rhino123", 'cause that's about how many tries it took to get the color. Discovered the tint bottles are not consistent. The amount of pigment varies, so they have to be sorted accordingly or mixed together. I mix a batch in a clean liner bottle then use a 3 oz. cup to measure out for each bottle mixed.I've experimented with different levels of prep, scratch pads & sand paper.Over oxidation and prepped rust. So far it's been very forgiving and durable.Started with an old trailer tool box (spots of rust), intending to leave it out in the weather. Been two years, still looks good. Then the trailer, testing color and spray patterns. The grill and then a wheelbarrow to test textures. (just scuffed with scratch pads. oxidation and rust present on wheelbarrow) Why not a purple wheelbarrow?Clean seems to be more important than the level of abrasion. Used Custom ShopPanel prep, Grease and wax remover and acetone.Time to get down to business. Paint day! Took 12 bottles (grill & tailgate previously painted so 2 more bottles there). Three coats & good thickness, I'll take it. A coat consists of two passes overlapping, diagonally opposite. 100 psi at compressor, reg set at 50-55 psi, nozzle four turns out, 18" to 20" distance using included spray gun. Easy to spray. Took my time, no need to be in a rush. Five hours to spray jeep with a half hour lunch and an hour between coats. I also clean the spray gun between bottles. I let the liner cure for at least four days before exposing to direct sun or re-assembly that would put pressure on the liner(i.e. things bolted to it). The samples I pulled from the mask stayed rubbery for three days before starting to harden up. Still flexible, not brittle one month later.Yes, the spray gun is cheapo. My biggest issue is the trigger. There's a little pad that engages the air valve. It will start to slip to the side and form a groove. It gets to where it slips and binds up too often, throwing off your rhythm. If you get enough kits to spray a vehicle, you'll end up with enough spray guns. Once it starts slipping, it goes in the pile. Get another one. I had four ready to go. Wore out the first one, which still had purple on it, second is still good. They do work. Tried the $80 upol "professional" spray gun. It does make the grit pattern slightly less coarse than the regular one, adjustable to almost a matte paint look. I was surprised how the adjustment did make a noticeable difference (unlike the regular spray gun). It won't go as coarse as regular ones. You'll notice I didn't use it for this project.I let it cure for at least four days in the shade- 75 to 85 degree days. I think letting it get too hot, too soon leads to problems. Tested this on the wheelbarrow. It went into direct sun a few hours after spray. No shrink or peel so I don't know. The jeep stayed under cover for five days.Something to keep in mind: anything you take off to paint under won't fit the way it did before. This stuff is pretty thick. I got .021" total. My father, a professional automotive painter for 25 years, commented that in all his time he never checked his paint thickness with a micrometer. I think he may have been making fun of me.First day out- (painting done one week ago) well, it didn't fly off in big sheets going down the highway so that's good.Got a few scrapes from creosote brush, not one mark. Looked good before, looks better with some dust on it.Over a month now- has sat in direct sun all day in the parking lot at work, 90*+ temps. No shrinking or any wierdness. Could smell the volatiles for three weeks or so.I want to do another one. Coyote maybe. I want someone else to prep it, I don't ever want to do that again. lol. I'm eyeing my neighbor's YJ. Wonder if they'd notice...

I like it so far, will have to see how it holds up.
I'm using this to coat my entire truck as it's much cheaper than trying to repaint it (it's almost 20 years old with 300k miles). Kit is great and is working well with my smaller air compressor setup. Key thing to remember though, prep is everything with any sort of spray on product!! Where I prepped properly, adhesion and quality is great, but I didn't get the bottom of my doors prepped well enough and there is some slight flaking going on.

8 bottles will not do as much as you think
I did the whole inside of my Chevy express black (which took 10 bottles). The outside (white, obviously) took a total of 11 bottles. 8 bottles of the white was only enough to cover the sides of the van.. minus the hood, roof and rear bumper. I ended up having to buy a black 4 bottle kit from autozone to do the roof, hood and bumper. The roof took 3 bottles, 1 bottle for the hood, rear bumper and grill pieceThe Chevy express paint jobs in the early 2000’s were/are notorious for being horrendous in quality. Almost every van you see has paint chipping off of it.. mine was one. I decided to sand down the whole van to the bare metal because of this.. if you were spraying this raptor liner over previous white paint that was just sanded lightly you could probably get away with applying it thinner…. I didn’t have that choice. I had to spray over bare steel so it had to be thoroughly done. I’m a huge raptor liner (upol or whatever its the same thing) fan.. the gun in this kit isnt the greatest.. trigger was broken out of the box but luckily got it to work messing around with it. Autozone sells a gun incase the one you get is trash.Get an inline water filter you can screw in to your regulator.. itll keep moisture out of your paint. Use a regulator at the gun also.. I sprayed mine at 45 psi. Another tip.. have all the cleaning tools, supplies ready before you start spraying so you can dump everything after immediately. Tape needs to come off before it gets to hardened so you dont risk peeling the raptor off with the tape.. i wait a good 15-20 minutes before I start slowly taking the tape off. Not too fresh but not too dry.. it that makes sense. Wear gloves… this stuff is worse than paint and will NOT come off your hands or anything else it touches

Product seems good, gun trigger is bad.
Application was simple and straightforward, in my case the bed was not on the truck so if needed to be sprayed whilst on work horses. When you hold the gun to shoot the bed sides the trigger bends away from the valve and no longer worked until bent back to original position. Other then that it did fine.

Perfect to line a trunk!
Sprayed inside a trunk of a restoration project. 1962 Studebaker Avanti. The results were perfect. Very simple to use and spray with my under coater gun. Looks much better than the trunk carpet kit I have used, and paid almost 400.00 for, in the past. One quart was perfect for this small trunk area. Forty psi, clean the area well, tape off areas as needed and a good wet coat.

Looks great
Looks as good as the professional stuff. Practice spraying first to get the texture you want. Gun could be better, no fan pattern adjustment. Great product.

very pleased with product, not so much packaging but great heavy duty texture, goes on very well, covers very well, time will tell how well it holds up but sure feels like it will do a great job

Get the 6 cans for a small truck bed
Good enough product and easy to use. The gun isnt the best quality. Ran out of product at the end and had to run to the store to get more. 4 cans is not enough for 1 full coat. Wish i had the 6 cans and would have been able to complete a thick 1st coat and a second thin coat
