Love them
A lot of people talk about how ugly these are and I disagree. They don’t look like the perfect round marble shaped leca that you see on tik tok but that’s why I like them. They look natural and organic, not like a sterile kardashian product.

Functional, but ugly.
The only reason I don't see myself repurchasing this item is simply bc it's ugly. It's not like the reddish, perfectly round leca. I knew they wouldn't be perfectly round and that was ok. But the color of them is an ugly brown that just doesn't look pretty in some of my clear vases. For the most part, majority of my plants are in decorative pots so you can't see the leca. So maybe I'll just buy a smaller bag of prettier leca for my see through vases. Lol about 40-50% of the leca sank to the bottom after I boiled it all. It's also been sitting in a container of water all day as well. I bought the 25L bag and spent $42 on it so I had hoped that this leca would have absorbed more moisture than it did. I do feel like for the price, the quality should be a bit better but overall, this leca works just fine.

Huge bag
Huge bag great for the price. They weren’t super “pretty” like other brands I’ve had but when you have them in a pretty pot you can’t tell!

This growth medium is great for hydro-gardens. I have been using this product for about a year and this is not my first bag, I have ordered from Amazon and bought locally, no difference at all, cost & function are the same..My first thoughts were that the roots would get smashed with this medium in the Drip Method because it floats in water then sinks down when drained but that was not the case at all, in fact, my root systems were so healthy that they actually ate the medium up so do not expect to reuse for another crop, you will be lucky to find it within the massive root structure.Needless to say, the end result was amazing and I have never seen roots like that before... huge, pure white, and massive in length.. it was something you just don't see with a soil medium.End results were much healthier roots & stalk and a better tasting, yielding & healthier harvest. No disease or pests to battle since most originate or breed in soil. This is the way to go. 4 stars!*If this review helped you either way, could you please leave me a Helpful to let me know? Thanks!*

ANY ?'s I have researched this for you.
Ok, while soon many questions regarding this product have surfaced, and there is conflicting data, I have done research. I have DONE SERIOUS NUMBER CRUNCHING FOR EVERYONE, NOT BIASED AND NOT A PAID ENDIRSMENT.While this product will not be suitable for aeroponic use, as it floats more than sinks... It will displace water and will not alter ph.A 40 liter bag is 1.4 cubic feet- the bag will come to. Just about your knees and is about a foot wide. (See photos)Upon rinsing and reweighing after days of dying, I found that 14.3 ounces were lost. Upon a second testing on another bag- twice that was lost, so a great variance is seen upon batches. This product is often hated as of "... So much orange water and rust left behind" after initial rinsing and being held in a 5 liter, 10 liter and 20 liter containers filled 3/4 respectively and equivalent quantity of tap water with a ph of 6.8, with rather high levels of phosphate, though no ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, nor more than a slight reading of chlorine, left for 1 month the following was found: the 5 liter container retained NO discoloration and .7 ounces of "rust" whereas the larger containers in fact, oddly- all results were found after repeated twice, left no orange water and almost no rust. So, the less you use- the more is left behind. This may be due to several reasons.Of which comes down to NOTE:-results are being sent to chemists, an organic biologist and numerous PhDs and waiting to revise with findings on this and a couple other oddities which require determinations from colleagues-In summation, this is a fantastic all around medium which is inexpensive, versatile, and when mixed with a few bags- consistency (obviously) becomes less of a con. I have used other products, I have used every other product available to the public. Findings: while other products may be superior- until their prices come down, expanded clay will be the continued choice for DWC, Gravity fed Dripers, and more advanced timer based drip systems, among other systems including a cheap GREAT way to ensure your soil is constantly well drained and consistently consistent. Any further questions? PLEASE ASK, I have MORE data to come! Thanks for your interest, and time.

Tape up the bottom seams, bad packaging. Mind the clay dust, requires pre-rinse, Great Texture
Roots need uneven surfaces to support the plant and perfectly round hydroton beads are stupid. These clay pieces actually simulate the unevenness of soil and my plants roots can grab on and hold better to this substrate. I am growing jalapenos, cabbage, mustard greens, kale, tomato, lettuce, zuccini, yellow squash, cauliflower, broccoli, sugar snap peas, slicing/pickling cucumbers, and green/yellow/purple bell peppers in this mix. I love the variety and texture of these beads. At first I was like WTF these gnarly beads look like chihuahua poops. The price was good, so I filled up some net pots and WOW! the plants grow so much better in these. I have a 3 foot tall tomato that constantly falls over in the "perfectly round" beads, she can't seem to get a grip in her net cup. My new tall plants in this GrowIT substrate stand tall with no falls. This is a good price but FYI requires some rinsing and prep. Select a workplace area you can sweep or vacuum easily. To sterilize, I pour boiling water over the beads to wash away the clay dust and sanitize for delicate seedlings. I will never, ever buy those lame "perfectly round" beads ever again!

Not the same as previous purchase
Overall this Leca does the job. If you’re looking for perfect spheres then this is not the right one for you. If imperfections are ok or this will not be at the bottom of the pot or you’re just looking for value then this is great. My only issue would be consistency within the product itself when purchased at different times. My first order had red clay while my most recent order had gray clay.

Convenient size
A very good size for this product. I've been using this for the microgreens for a year now. If the clay beads get to gummed up, I just put them into the garden. Makes a very soil additive.
