Excellant and reliable. (My first refractometer from Amazon was a dud, compete waste of money and a way out of calibraton.) This unit came calibrated. Not only that, I've not had to re-calibrate after numerous uses. Its as good as the refractomerter my aquarium store uses upon actual side by side comparison. I like the little pipettes that came with it... handy. I am surprised how good this unit really is. I have a salt water aquarium and make my own RODI water.

Worked as intended and easy to use. The cleaning cloths and extra droppers were a nice addition.

Works like it should. Comes in a decent foam lined case.

Accurate salinometer. I do calibrate it each time I use with a home-made calibration fluid. It works a treat, super cheap, and easy to read. Every saltwater keeper should get one as a back-up salinity device.

Nice gadget for the money. But, if you are buying this to monitor your pool, be advised you will be reaching the upper limit for salt concentration at just the fifth bar from the bottom of the scale. That is 1.005 specific gravity or 6.8 parts per thousand which is 6800 parts per million. Around 4500 PPM is the reccommended ceiling for saltwater pools. It works, but all your action will be in the bottom 5% of the scale. Do remove the little rubber cap and calibrate zero using distilled water and a small flat blade screwdriver. I went ahead and bought a digital combo meter that measures salinity, PH, temp, and TDS. That should save some time over this if it works as advertised. It was more than twice the money but hey, it's all in the name of science. I might even come back and let you know how it worked out.

I’m a scientist by profession, so I wasn’t expecting this less-than-$20 instrument to work well—but to my surprise, I’m quite pleased with the performance of this refractometer! The build quality feels sturdy and, with a few minor adjustments, I was able to read the salinity of my newly constructed saltwater aquarium. Here are some of my tips, for those who are interested in this refractometer: Blurry numbers? The eyepiece can easily be adjusted with a gentle twist, until the image is clear. (Very similar to a microscope!) Calibration to 0 (DI Water): If your fingers can’t twist the calibration screw well enough, inside the storage box is a tiny (adorable) screwdriver to help. Accurate?: Well, if I knew the salinity already, I probably wouldn’t have bought this refractometer. However, the values closely resemble my expectations for the saltwater I acquired. PRO-TIP: Use a gentle cloth, like the one provided, to remove the liquid when you’re done. Lenses are much easier to read if there’s no water marks (air drying liquid) or scratches (removal with a rough surface). This little refractometer works great, it is simple and comes with multiple pipettes, a nice case, a microfiber cloth, and the calibration screwdriver. I would definitely get some distilled water and calibrate it before use, I think mine was off by a little bit when it arrived. Definitely skip the super expensive ones, this will last you for a long time if taken care of. It also can be focused in the handle. The pictures in the listing are accurate.

This refractometer works great - it's accurate and extremely easy to use and maintain. The only trick is you need to calibrate it before using it on your fish tank, etc. Calibration is super easy - get a gallon of spring water from the store (mine was a whopping $0.99), and use a few drops of that to ensure that the device is calibrate - it should be reading 0 and 0% on each side, respectively. Once that is done, you can use it to accurately test whatever needs testing. I have compared it with my other salinity gauges for my saltwater aquarium, and this refractometer is consistently accurate while my other gauges are not. I also appreciate that this refractometer comes with a cleaning cloth, three pipettes for water drop collection and application, clear instructions, and a protective case. All in all, this was totally worth the money - I highly recommend this product.

LLegó rapidamente, muy bien embalado y con un estuche para guardarlo. Es barato fácil de utilizar al llegar lo calibré con agua destilada aun no lo usé porque lo compré para medir la sal de la piscina.

Användre den till att mäta salthalten i mitt saltvattens akvarie. Den är lätt att läsa av och fungerar väldigt bra.
