If you mean actually laid flat on floor, around a hole then no. These vents are made from plastic and will break if stood on. You need stainless steel, hardened plastic or aluminium. Something a lot more durable.

can the fly net be removed easily to reduce air-flow restriction?

Yes just run a stanly knife around the back of it.
