The X-Sense mailbox alarm SMA11 which includes the SBS50 base station and the SMA51 sensor works brilliantly. The sensor is small, relatively unobtrusive, and is built for outdoor use. It has an IP65 rating and UVโresistant housing so it will stand up to rain and sun without looking bulky. The package includes a mounting bracket for the sensor and 2 pieces (1 spare) doubleโsided tape for quick installation to your mailbox. The sensor detection combines an infrared sensor and a tilt/motion trigger. I have found that it gives fast, accurate alerts for my parcel letterbox and most likely for most mailbox types. The base station will sound an alarm of your choice from 7 preset alert tones on the base station and you'll get a push notification to your phone the moment the mail flap or mailbox is opened. Range will depend on placement of the SBS50 base station but XโSense advertises longโrange transmission suitable for typical suburban setups. The SMA51 sensor (that attaches to your letterbox door/mail flap/parcel door of the letterbox) uses a replaceable CR2 lithium battery and XโSense estimates that you'll get about four years of standby life based on approximately 5 triggers per day. Now I find that that excellent and makes for a very lowโmaintenance sensor. The X-Sense home security app is fairly straightforward to use and it is from here that you can change alert tones and control the volume (up to 100 dB on the base station). You can share alerts with multiple other users/family members by adding in email addresses, they then get an invitation for which they will need to accept in order to share alerts. You can change device names and clear any alerts from the app or directly from the base station. Just be mindful that this device will not pair directly with your phone you will need the SBS50 base station unless you already have one or buy the kit. My installation is in an all steel bricked in parcel letterbox and the signal has no issue reaching the base station. I am extremely pleased with the operation of the X-Sense Mailbox Alarm so far. In my case I installed the sensor on the inside of the mail flap of the parcel letterbox and it works equally as good when I get mail or when I get a parcel.

I purchased this as a replacement and was blown away with how much superior this is to the old one I had. It does have the base station you need to setup, and I have this farther away from the mailbox than I ever have. The setup was simple, just install the app on your phone. Only took me a few minutes to get setup. The device for the mailbox is pretty flexible, there are different options for how to mount it depending on your mailbox setup. This works with a bunch of different types of mailboxes. Mine is a standard side of the road mailbox where the door flips down. This device is VERY sensitive and I've never missed an alert (again my old one wouldn't always register the door opened). You also have adjustments for the sensor to accommodate non-level ground or other anomalies in your installation. If I was critical about anything, it would be the instructions on mounting the sensor. There is an adjustment knob, which appears to allow you to adjust for uneven ground, but I couldn't find anything in the instructions. Luckily it wasn't an issue for me. Now some cool things.. the app gets a push notification from the base station when the mailbox is opened. The base station blinks red, you get an alert on your phone, and in the app you get a big red pop-up indicating the mailbox was opened. You have to press the little button on the back of the base station to turn off the alert. This means keep the base station handy. I really wish there was a way to reset it through the application. To be fair, there is an option in the app as to whether or not to flash red until you acknowledge it by pressing the button. The app is flexible, you can determine if you want an audible alarm, if you want it to sound once or until acknowledged. You can also change the sound it plays. 7 different options and multiple volume levels. Mine has barking dogs activated. As complete as this device is, I was a little annoyed that the sounds are labeled Tone 1, Tone 2, ... until Tone 7. You basically have to play each of them to figure out which one to use. You also have the option of what type of notifications. The device was triggered, when silenced, or if there is a low battery. Finally, the base station is the generic X-Sense base station, so it works with their other security products (door open, motion sensor, etc.) Bottom line, this is superior than any other mailbox alert system that I've had. The distance and reliability is awesome! I love that I get alerts on my mobile device. If you are in the market, I can't image how you could go wrong. Awesome device!!

The X-Sense Smart Mailbox Alarm was easy to install. It had very clear instructions that were easy to follow. I've only tested it out 3 times so far, but it works exactly as it is supposed to. I was concerned because I have a 5g network for my computers, and the X-Sense is incompatible with 5g. But, because I connected it to my Apple iPhone X, it had no trouble connecting with 2.4g. The base station has a loud alert so I can hear it from other rooms in the house, and I also get a text message when the mailbox door is opened. The mail just came while I was writing this review, and it worked like a charm. I was a little leery, but this is an awesome product and is well worth the price. I just hope the mail person does not break it for me. They constantly jam oversized packages into the mail box using the theory that anything will fit with sufficient force. But I am more than satisfied with the mailbox alarm, the ease of installation, and the good instructions.

Excellent product, highly recommend. Now that Canada Post is not putting up the red flag we found someone tampering with our mailbox, purchased this item and it works a charm, we know instantly when the mailbox has been opened. You cannot see our house from the road and we are surrounded with trees but the signal comes through just fine. It is nice to have 2 people to set it up, one on the phone app and the other reading the instructions because they are so small you need a magnifying glass. We don't have a router and use my phone as a hotspot, working perfectly. If you have a rural mailbox I highly suggest purchasing this product.
