compact and powerful pool cleaning robot
I just used this robot to clean out my pool for the upcoming summer, and honestly it surprised me. It’s pretty compact compared to some of the bigger cleaners out there, but it’s actually really powerful and gets the job done without any issues. What I like most is the filter basket size. It holds way more debris than I expected, so I can clean my small pool in one run without constantly stopping to empty it. Picks up dirt, leaves, and filters it out. It also climbs the walls better than I thought it would, and the app setup was straightforward. Just drop it in and let it work. Definitely made pool cleaning way less annoying this season.

Climbs walls in floor only mode
This order arrived to my house on Monday, June 23. I unpacked it and installed it into the waterproof electrical box I used for my previous cleaner in pretty short order. Downloaded the app, and configured the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth with no issues as other people have previously mentioned; I guess they are just idiots. It took me 10 minutes, tops. This included a firmware upgrade. Everything worked as it’s supposed to. My pool is 20 x 40 with an 8 foot deep end. Two jets, two ladders, two sets of steps in the shallow corners. my biggest issue with the pool is tree debris from neighboring trees. Bark, twigs, leaves. After it sits in the pool, it decomposes and breaks down and turns into fine particulate matter. I played around with the manual setting on the floor for a while. Very cool to be able to go exactly where you want to go and get large piles of debris, dirt, leaves, pool, funk. I then created a custom setting. My parameters were floor only, S-shaped pattern, four hours. This video shows that it loves to hit the walls. In spite of the fact I selected floor only. The walls on my pool stay fairly clean. If this thing would stick to the program, it would probably do a pretty good job. However, if this first run is any indicator, I’m going to be returning this unit to Amazon in very short order. In the five minutes, it took for me to draft this review, it has climbed the walls and additional five times. In fact, I dare say it has spent more time on the walls than on the floor, even though it is supposedly on floor only mode. I will give it a few more days and see if it possibly needs to map my pool in order to perform better. If not, thank goodness it’s on prime, and I will just send it back and try another unit. If the situation improves, I will update my review and my stars. June 24 update: So, I will say it did a superb job of cleaning. I had a very heavy amount of debris since my old cleaner has been dead a month. It does not follow an S-pattern even when using one of the canned floor only formats. It just randomly scoots along, covering a solid 95% of my total floor space. I got the remaining 5% with the manual setting. It did not scrub the walls with this format either. As it approached the vertical surface, it would stop, pivot, and proceed. I think this is where the lack of S-pattern comes in. It does not do a precise 180 degree turn every time, causing it to go off in angles all over the place. My initial review was a 3, I will bump it up to 4, with considerations to a 5. I was skeptical with its initial performance out of the box. I have a large pool and would like the ability to manually program it to do what I want, as advertised. As long as it is durable and maintains this level of cleaning performance, I might forego the advertised features and give it 5 stars. July 17 update. Unit has lost connection and says it is not in the water. Neither is the case. I still have a 6 day window to send it back to Amazon for a full refund, so off it goes. Shame because it has potential. Cleaned well but programming bugs could not be overcome.

Worth the price
The Poolmate Hydro 4 does a great job cleaning the pool floor, walls, and waterline, and the suction power is impressive. The app is easy to use, and setup only took a few minutes. The only downside is that the cord can sometimes get tangled, but overall it is worth the price. It cleans the bottom and walls well, but it does not float on the surface to pick up leaves. Large leaves and debris on top of the water still need to be removed manually or with a skimmer. If you mainly need something for surface leaves, this may not be the best choice.

This has to be the best pool cleaner and the best customer service you're likely to find
I waited to write a review because I wanted to relate how well this pool robot performs over time. Opening our pool this Spring was a disaster. Unlike other years when the pool was crystal clear to the bottom when we removed the winter cover, this year we couldn't see more than a few inches below the surface. After running hundreds of dollars of chemicals through the filtration system constantly for two weeks (my electricity bills prove it) little had changed. Being able to see the bottom of the pool was a distant memory. In desperation, we bought the Poolmate Hydro 4 Pool Robot Cleaner - primarily because it does not use the pool's filtration system to clean the pool. Dirt and debris are collected in the Robot's filter bin. We chose the hybrid version of the Poolmate 4 with both corded and cordless components because we were in such a bad situation. We began with the corded version of the robot along with the ultra fine filter (additional cost but well worth it for our extremely dirty pool). The corded version meant we didn't have to keep charging the battery buoy (which lasts for about two hours before needing a recharge). Within a few hours we could see the bottom of the pool. A day later and the water was clear. Now we run the cordless robot with the standard filter to collect leaves and other large debris and it does an amazing job. If pollen or sand accumulate, we clean with the ultra fine filter and it's gone. Totally gone. But the best feature of this setup is the Customer Service. They are responsive to a fault. Any issues or questions we have had have been quickly resolved. The folks we have dealt with have all been thoughtful and helpful and generous with their time and expertise. I am so glad we bought this brand. The robot climbs the walls and cleans the waterline as advertised. The pool floor is spotless when it's done. And I can't say enough good things about the company behind it! If I had to buy another, I would buy the Poolmate in a minute!

Hydro 4 corded - My findings and comments 5-5-26
Initial findings - just unboxed and got it running... 1. Positive - fairly lightweight 2. Positive - nicely packaged with foam holding parts and plastic wrap holding coils. 3.Negative - the manual you download from the website and the QR code to download the program is in that download... for my phone I needed to send the link to someone else so I could scan it from their phone into mine. 4. Positive - the program was fairly easy to connect and use but I had to agree to AI and I am not seeing what benefit that may have been, maybe later? 5. Positive - clean basket, nice suction 6. Negative - it appears that to turn around it has to jog forward then backwards then forwards, etc a number of times... I think that all the treads and scrubbers are run by one motor and one of the rear foam pieces is larger so it rotates the unit to turn - maybe not a negative as one less motor to fail? 7. Positive - it cleans the wall well as it climbs and looks to do a nice job on them 8. Random Comments in no particular order - there appears to be no logic for a cleaning pattern but after a while it gets it clean - the cable does not have a swivel so you will need to untwist it every so often - there are lights on the front of the unit that can do some interesting patters - No clear way to register the device online (although they do provide a card where you can write the info that the app gives you for the model and serial number. If this thing lasts a while it may be worth the price... I will update as things happen. If I dont add anything then its probably ok...

Good cleaner, great customer service
I purchased mine in March of 2025. I’d give it 3 stars for cleaning performance. When I pull the unit from the water, small debris falls back in to the pool, which is annoying. Overall it does a good job in the summer when there’s not a lot of leaves blowing around. I have a lot of trees around my pool, so it can’t keep up in the spring and fall. I use my Polaris at those times. Last week the unit died completely. All I get is a blinking orange light on the unit. After a couple of emails being sent back and forth, I received a brand new unit via FedEx. Overall I give the unit 3 stars, and the customer service 5 stars.

Reliable, simple, and works super well!
Fantastic robot vacuum! It is beating a lot of the major brands out there! Honestly, I did not buy it believing it is the best out there. I am just getting tired of those major brands charging a arm and leg for some basic functions. I decided to get this a try. I am so surprised by it! Here are highlights, 1. It works well! Picking up leaves, getting the water flow up in the pool, and removing some debris from the waterline are everything that I am asking for, and it does that very well! 2. Scheduling function works well! I like to get it to work super early in the morning, and that works! 4AM every morning, floor cleaning for 2 hour, wall and waterline for 2 hours, everyday. It is basic, simple and reliable. 3. leaf collection tank is huge. It is bigger than the major brand I have (Poloris). 4. App privacy -- no login needed, no wifi needed, just bluetooth and the machine saves all the setting you have, including scheduling. What's better is that you can still update this thing! I love that the company does not force you to create an account and share all personal information with them, and they still provide all updates, functions, and features! Control unit is small and pretty. I am not sure how long it will last underneath the direct sun, so I am going to find a shed box for it. I will report here for any issues down the road. This thing is such a fantastic product from a small company. I am now loving this much more than the three poloris monsters that I have without any scheduling feature!

Trash product not made to be outside
Don’t be fooled by this product it’s not made to actually be used outside. Mine failed after four months and I was just told by them that it’s not meant to be outside in any elements. The control box has to be in a housing that’s waterproof. Mine stopped working last week. It happened to be raining when they asked me for pictures. I sent them pictures and it had some water droplets on it, and they said that there is no warranty coverage so giant waste of money.

Design failure
Unfortunately the cable kept getting tangled in the brushes in a weird way! The brushes would have eventually been damaged from it.
