A top quality but no-frills release.
AHS Cult 2017 Blu-rayA no frills release in a basic Blu-ray case, no card slipcover, very plain discs the bare minimum bonus of FX promo spots. The inlay is printed on both sides but the inner artwork is lost in a standard blue tinted case.Picture and audio is top quality as expected. The case says it’s region B while the discs say regions A,B and C which is great.Big fan of the show but this season was last on my list to buy and complete the collection so far, fantastic cast as always, some suspense and wicked dark humour but a little too political, slowly paced and lacking in actual horror.

American Horror Story S7: Cult
Although this series of American Horror Story was set in the real world, I still loved it. In fact, I think that it is my favourite season of American Horror Story to date.

Cult mania - there is only one Cult - (the band).
This started off impressively with a very good plot structure and solid performances from Evan Peters, Sarah Poulson, her wife and the odd couple across the road. Its a great idea mixing horror and politics fiendishly well. My criticisms would be that the gore count was too much in the end. Also it did get silly in places and I wasn't sure re Lena Dunham much as I like her. A mixed bag.

The Deification Of Valerie Solanas?!
Spoilers.I may be wrong but it seems to me that the makers of ‘AHS, Cult’ think that Valerie Solanas, a mentally ill woman who was perfectly serious when she called for the extermination all male humans, was right. In the last episode the heroine, Ally, makes a run for the presidency and adopts the values of Solanas’ infamous, misandrist screed the ‘SCUM Manifesto’. Ally is portrayed throughout, as feminists like their role models, as a victim and at the end has an almost holy glow around her, even though she has committed murder and appears to be on the brink of becoming a vile cult leader. While I concede that the quality of this season was above average I think it is sad that the makers of the show have chosen to take seriously and promote the ideas of a mentally ill misandrist who deserves to be forgotten. But then, ‘AHS, Cult’, although only a frivolous TV show, is indicative of a wider problem in today’s western society: that it’s cool not only to denigrate masculinity but that it’s also acceptable to suggest that the world may be better off without males. Such ideas, in Solanas’ day, were rightly dismissed as the rantings of fringe lunatics. Sadly, ‘AHS, Cult’ shows that the garbage spouted by Solanas, and other vile harpies of that ilk, are becoming mainstream.I know ‘AHS’ has always been a bit ‘progressive’, but I think with ‘Cult’ the show’s makers have shown that their moral compasses are seriously skewed. But such is the nature of popular culture these days in its readiness to embrace the cancer of identity politics, even in their most extreme form.

Starting to run out of steam
By now the binge watching is over; was for me anyway, bought the complete set because I found season 1 captivating as was seasons 2,3,4, levelled out in 5 and 6 with the death spin down in season 7 and 8. You still watch because you need to know the story arch.

I've just finished the seventh episode and so far so good! It seems that after the complete waste of time which I find the previous season was, the AHS is definitely back on track. I feel that this latest season is very important, perhaps as important as George Orwell's "1984". The show explores some concepts about politics, power, leadership, brainwashing and mass manipulation...It's also good to see some lovely faces back in the show - Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Frances Conroy...The Cult is, no doubts, immensely political, dangerous and dark...and I really love it!
