Very quiet operation, great results. I put scraps in it as I was cooking meals such as outer cabbage leaves, wilted greens, apple peels and cores. I added used tea bags, chopped up toilet paper rolls. I started the machine before going to bed. By morning there was delightful brown, light and fluffy material for my plants. Very happy with purchase.

Update to my original review.I received the replacement unit and so far so good. I've used it 10 times so far and it's worked perfectly. I do make sure to cut up whatever I'm putting in so nothing gets stuck under the blades. I also add a little bit of composte starter.I've put meat, veggies, fruits, small bones, coffee grinds, brown filters, unbleached brown paper, leaves, pet food, pasta, cereal, corn, cooked beans and it has effectively processed everything . Time will tell, but so far I think this is a wonderful addition to any kitchen if your looking to reduce waste and produce nutritious fertilizer for your backyard and/or garden. I think even for apartment use, this will reduce waste and grow beautiful plants. Give this Ouaken a try.__________________________Not very happy with this composter right now. Twice we have tried the ferment mode and it has gotten stuck after about 12 hrs. The ferment button starts flashing. According to the instruction manual that means a motor failure.We have not packed the bucket. We put some poultry scraps two biodegradable coffee filters and some lemon peels. The bucket was not even half full. When I checked it everything was already pretty much done and nothing was stuck so Im not sure why it was indicating a failure. I also saw that the blades had scratched up the bottom of the bucket.I gave it 2 stars because I like the design and size but that does me no good if it doesn't work properly. I will be contacting customer service and returning this one for a replacement. I will update my review after giving it another chance.

We live on an island. Waste disposal of any kind is a challenge, including food waste. I have had a few disappointments recently with things I ordered online and I was prepared to be disappointed again. But this composter "delivers." It is quiet, clean and thorough - - sounds like a soft breath in the corner of our kitchen. It is a delight to remove the dry compost at the end of the cycle and even more of a delight to be able to put it directly on my houseplants. It is well built to last and easy to open, load, close - - and no compost-y odors in the house. I am looking forward to a fruit fly free summer!!
