Q: Does this need an amp?

yes. this is a professional keyboard. as such it has no built in speakers. you can plug headphones into it though.

Q: I have 3 questions... what powers the nord stage 3? do you need a computer? do you need an amplifier?

1. IEC power cable, and it comes with one. If you’re in the USA, it will be a 120V/60Hz cable. 2. A computer is not required to play it, but you will need to connect to a computer via USB if you want to add or remove soundbanks. There’s a sound manager program that you can download from their website which shows all the soundbanks installed and lets you manage them yourself. 3. There are no speakers on the keyboard so you will need an amplifier or headphones to play it. You can also connect to a DAW with MIDI cables if you want to use it as a virtual instrument.

Q: Can you split the keyboard to put a bass in the left register, and trigger it on or off?

Yes you can do that. It is very programmable, and the two panels (A and B) make it easy to switch between pre-programmed splits.

Unreliable!

I have had the worst luck with Nord stage 3's. I have had two replacements since my original purchase in august 2017. All 3 have been faulty. It takes up to 3 months to have repaired keyboards returned. They ended up having to be replaced.That's 3months each time without a keyboard that cost 4000euros.Software updates are another regular hassle. I have never had so much trouble with any other keyboard manufacturer.The Keyboard itself is awesome when it works but the 3 brand new keyboards I have had have all let me down. For gigging musicians this keyboard has proved to be unreliable.
