Great for cuff-down on 2 circs.
Ms. Gillingham does a great job describing how to knit two socks cuff down on two circular needles. Some of the best things are, finally, an illustraton of the anatomy of a sock. Finally, finally, finally, someone shows exactly what the gusset is on a sock. If you've never seen a hand-knit sock, only store-bought, you will be hard pressed to figure out what the gusset is. Here is a picture. Her other illustrations are also very good, particularly of the Kitchener graft. Her instructions are very clearly written. It's obvious that English is her second language in the sense that she is very careful and precise in its use. Nothing is taken for granted. This is an excellent quality in a book of instructions on a process. The reason I give this book only three stars is that I found the title misleading. If Ms. Gillingham (or her publisher) had specified that this was a book on knitting socks on TWO circular needles it would have been clear. As it is, I had the impression that it was a book about knitting socks on circular needles. This would normally have included knitting on one long circular needle, aka "Magic Loop." There is no mention of the magic loop method in the book. The other star was lost in the lack of any toe-up sock patterns. Toe-up is my preferred way of knitting socks because I have a number of relatives with very long feet. When you knit toe-up you can be sure to have the foot (at least!!!) completed before running out of yarn, then you use up the rest of the yarn to knit the leg and cuff. I know that most people are accustomed to knitting socks cuff down, but those of us who knit toe-up shouldn't be denied out of hand. This said, it is a good beginner book and knitting two socks at a time is truly a no brainer. Even if you've never knit socks before in your life, it will not be a problem to start two at a time with this book.

A New and Exciting Way to Knit Socks
This book is great if you want your pair of socks to be exactly the same length. With this book, you learn how to knit both socks at the same time using two circular needles. All you need to know is how to knit and purl. Knitting Circles around Socks: Knit Two at a Time on Circular Needles "introduces a technique that uses two circular needles and a basic pattern, teaching knitters to work both socks simultaneously." The book includes several patterns, illustrations of the technique, and ways to convert any sock pattern from double pointed to circular needles. There is a section on sizing, cast-on, and knitting basics such as decreasing and increasing. It then proceeds to the basic sock pattern. All the patterns are attractive and seem very well written out so that any intermediate knitter can knit them. There is nothing magic about this method. The book explains the details thoroughly and all one needs to do is read carefully and proceed from there. It is a wonderful addition to my sock knitting library and a technique I plan to try on my next pair of socks.

No more Lone socks!
I purchased this book recently and I couldn't recommend it more highly!I'm a novice sock knitter, and after my first pair of socks I discovered the problem of knitting socks individually, not only did they take me forever, but they turned out surprisingly mis-matched. A lady at the knitting store reccommended I try this volume, and I did, I've knit 4 pairs of socks using this book, and each pair comes out a bit better. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, the patterns are very easy to read and I've even been able to adapt a different sock pattern to use with this method with no problem. She has wonderful diagrams of how the socks work, and several handy charts on sizing and on yarn weights. The only problem I had at first with this book is figuring out how many stitches to cast on to make childrens socks from the basic pattern. And that might be due to my status as a novice sock knitter. The only think I'd love to see is a toe up method, and perhaps information on how to change sizes for children. But I'd recommend it to anyone, and I'm thrilled at spending the time I would to make one sock and turning up with TWO!

A really great book!
First let me say I have crocheted for 10 years and have only been knitting a few months when I purchased this book. I was intimidated until I actually got my hands into the very first basic sock pattern. It's really very easy once you get the hang of it. ALso, there is a great intro to sock construction that I've not seen in a lot of other knitting sock books, that is good to have if you've never knitted a sock. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. I am very happy with this book and wish more books were written like it. Plus, the really cool thing is I won't make one sock and wait 3 months to make it's mate!! I would highly recommend this book to beginners and others who just want to try something new.

The only way to knit socks
I knew I was going to like this book when I read Antje's introduction - I liked her right away. When I got ready to start knitting, I was amazed at how good the instructions were. There were more than enough pictures and instructions for casting on and getting started, and that's what made the whole process so easy. Once everything is set up on the needles correctly, you really can't get mixed up. Even the fact that she has you use a 16" and a 24" inch needle helps because you always know which row you are on by the feel of the needle. I completed my first pair of socks in one month (I don't get a whole lot of time to knit each day or it would probably go faster) which is a lot faster than I'm able to do two separate socks because it takes me so long to get myself to start the second one. I'm never going back to knitting one sock at a time.

This book is for a present for someone who wants to learn how to knit two socks on circular needles . Looking through the book it appears to be informative and well written. Four stars as it is a small book with not a lot of pages !!!!!

Going around in Circles
I, too, went around in circles initially, but then it is always difficult to change one's habits. Got the gist of it eventually.

Good clear instructions. A must try even for traditional knitters, who prefer one at a time.
