Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: A Harry Potter Hogwarts Library Book

***READ BEFORE BUYING***
Being the complete potterhead that I am, I loved this book. I reccommend it for anyone who is interested in reading an informative encyclopedia-like book that you can find in the home of many wizarding folk. This book is supposed to be in similar format to a dictionary. DO NOT BUY IT IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A STORY. This book is used in the wizarding world as a guide on topics such as where to find a Hippogriff or what a knarl really is. Page wise, it is on the small side and lacks pictures, but if you love it as much as I do, it doesn't really matter. Multible people gave this only one star (undeservingly so in my opinion). Many of these people did so purely because they didn't research the product (by using the internet or READING THE HP BOOKS) before buying and were looking for a fairly tale or story similar to the new upcoming movie based on the book, not an encyclopedia. Do not let these bad reviews stop you from buying this book. I do suggest actually going to a book store rather than buying it from amazon though. That way, you will be able to skim through the pages and see if this is your kind of book. In addition, I read a few unsettling reviews about how in the name of God there is going to be a movie made based on the book. In case you are interested the movie is going to be about the author, Magizoologist Newt Scamander. Hope my review was helpful.

but it's a good read if you love the series and the movie
Just a heads up! This is NOT the screenplay. This book is the literal "guide" to the beasts "written" by Newt Scamander. This book is a very short, cute guide to all the beasts and includes a few doodles of the beasts as wel. It's not a thrilling read or anything, but it's a good read if you love the series and the movie.

Amazing
NOT A STORY BOOK! This is a guide book describing the all fantastic beasts. If you want a story book, this is not it. It is very beautiful and has amazing art work but it is not a story book. Definitely worth the money and lovely.

Great Book for my 9-Year and Myself to Learn More about Magical Beasts in the Harry Potter World!
My son Daniel received Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them for Easter and we had a grand time reading it together. He enjoyed the movie over the winter, but he really liked this textbook by Newt Scamander on the fantastic beasts that he had found over the world. The book starts with a great introduction defining what a beast is and how they are classified. It also talked about how Muggles interact with the magical world of beasts. One of Daniel’s favorite items was a list of the Ministry of Magic Classifications of the beasts going from “X - Boring to “XXXXX – Known Wizard Killer / Impossible to Train or Domesticate.” The book lists all beasts alphabetically with a brief description of what they are and how they are classified. He bookmarked the classification scheme so he could quickly flip back and take a look at it with each beast.Daniel’s favorite beast was the Hodag. In particular it was his favorite because “It is now confined, mostly successfully, to a protected area around Wisconsin.” We had to look it up outside of the book and read how the legend persists in the Wisconsin north woods. Daniel was convinced then that J.K. Rowling has visited Wisconsin and he thought that was very awesome.Overall, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a quick enjoyable book. Even young 9-year old Daniel was impressed that proceeds all go to charity. He loved the format and learning more about the creatures in the Harry Potter series and the Fantastic Beasts movie.Book Source: Purchased from Amazon.com

Great Quality Book
I was very worried when I read all the reviews and they were all for the screenplay. I already have the screenplay AND have seen the movie but have been waiting for the re-release of the actual Fantastic Beasts encyclopedia. Thank goodness it was exactly what I was hoping for! This book introduces all the different magical beasts and gives you different information about them. It is a great companion book to help better appreciate the movie! The hard cover is beautiful and the pages even have a glossy feel. I only paid $7 for it and feel it is definitely worth more with how nice of a quality the actual book is. I haven't read any of it yet but will update after I do!

They took out the fun notes... don't believe the preview
It is beyond disappointing that they took the "handwritten" notes out of the book. What is more frustrating, is I intentionally did not buy the three book packaged set because it clearly stated that the notes were not in the book in that box set, so I purchased the books individually because in the preview of this book it shows the notes. Upon further review, I see now that there a very fine print note that says that the preview book is a different version, but still, this is absolutely poor form and very frustrating.

couldn' put it down
literly I couldn't put it down till I finished it. my brain was stuck in fantastic beast. when I downloaded the book my night had been reading fantastic beast. the pictures are drawn so well. they match the description perfecty. my favorite beast would be the Phoenix, dragon, and werewolf. the thing that beats the pictures is writing. the author wrote amazing explanations about the beast, including the dragon werewolf Phoenix yeti basilisk and acromancula. drawing beast is quite a ways from writing you are listening to te words instedof picturing them. this book could nt get a better review from me.

a fun auxiliary book to the Harry Potter books
This provides a detailed description of all fantastic beasts. It covers all the ones you have read about in the Potter series along with many others. It is a quick fun read

Sloppy and lacking in detail
I am surprised by all the 5 star reviews for this book. I knew it was basically supposed to be the school textbook version rather than a book of the film, but felt it was so lacking in depth that it would be useless as a reference book too. The section on werewolves for example is just a single short paragraph and doesn't give any extra information than you get in the prisoner of azkaban. Also, in several places it says "see below" but there is nothing relevant written below. It feels very sloppy when compared to the level of detail put in the stories. Also, it is inconsistent with the fantastic beasts film. Newt in the film would never describe creatures as boring which this book does, the character was fascinated by all creatures.

Not a story but a skimpy catalog
This is an very short list of animals from Harry Potter with a few poor line pictures and skimpy details. It was almost certainly thrown together in a few hours, at the insistence of a publisher, to milk the franchise and it's fans for money. It certainly is not a work likely to impress many fans and does NOT enrich the HP universe, and in no way mimics what is supposed to be an impressive zoological or seminal academic text book.Trash in a nice cover. AVOID

Good, but not as good as the original
Cute little text book. I owned the original paper copy that came out for comic releif when I was a child, and that had loads of funny annotations and stuff from Harry and Ron which I did not see on this Kindle edition which was a dissapointment. That was my favourite part of the book the first time I read it.I'm also pretty sure they missed out some of the beasts! E.g. Boggarts and some others that I can't remember. Although my memory may be failing me, as I no longer have my original copy for comparison.

Good for fans!
I bought this for my son as he was mad on all the Harry Potter books and films and he had shown interest in this book.Personally, when I trawled though it, I thought it looked as dull as dishwater but my son enjoyed it. He said that he like that it was kind of like a dictionary or diary style rather than a book of the movie. If he enjoyed it, then that’s good enough for me.Fans of HP and the movie will undoubtably enjoy this.
