Perfect Companion for the Classic TV Series
If you love the Avengers TV show, you'll love this book. It's really that simple. This is a beautiful, oversized, and heavily-illustrated memoir by Patrick Macnee, and focusing on his work on the various incarnations of the British cult classic. If you're looking for gossipy trash-talk or an episode-by-episode rehash, you'll need to go elsewhere. This is a bird's-eye view of the series filled with numerous photographs and anecdotes. There are also sections on "The New Avengers" and Macnee's Steed-like cameos in TV commercials and rock videos.Throughout, Macnee is consistently classy and cordial even if some of his memories (this book was originally published in the late 1990s) are a bit fuzzy. To fill in the gaps, there's commentary from set designers, directors, and so forth. While the book would have undoubtedly been strengthened by contemporary input by Diana Rigg and Honor Blackman, it's still one of the warmest TV nostalgia books I've ever read. And Macnee's own reflections on the art of acting and where he assesses himself as a craftsman contribute to a humble and ego-free self-portrait of the actor. After reading that final section, I had a strong feeling that I finally had a grasp on the actor who played Steed so well and I liked him even more than I did before."The Avengers" is overshadowed by James Bond in the public's imagination, of course, but the black-and-white episodes in particular are still especially loved by die-hard fans. This book is a worthwhile supplement to the series.

Supreme Steed
Having bought the last two seasons of the avengers I bought this as a companion piece. As this type of book goes it really is very good usually these books are written by enthusiasts orfans which is ok but no substitute for first hand experience of the stories being relayed.Having said that this book is co written but the spirit of Patrick Macnee permeates the pages.A good informative read well assembled and a great companion to the series
