Does exactly what I need
I was hesitant to buy this shut off valve because of several reviews suggesting it might not fit my pipe anatomy. But I recently had a $8000 repair bill for water damage in my home and I was desperate for a solution that would prevent another water disaster. The Aqara shut off valve arrived quickly. I was impressed with the build quality. Expecting disappointment, I immediately went to the main water shut off valve in my basement to check if the device would fit. I was overjoyed to see that it was going to be a perfect fit! It was a very easy install, taking no more than 15 minutes. Now the real test- would the thing actually work? I’m pleased to say that it worked perfectly, completely closing and then opening the valve. Then I tested automatic function by placing one of my Aqara water sensors in a dish of water. Almost instantaneously the device began closing the water valve. In less than 15 seconds my main water valve was completely closed. Time will tell about battery life. But for now I am very pleased.

Works well after some creative mods
I have a non standard pipe setup with a butterfly valve. The default setup was not working very well so I had to hack off a part of the butterfly valve. In the end it worked, paired is with a smartthings hub with an edge driver.

Smart Water Control with a Few Quirks
I installed this device to add peace of mind against leaks, and it works well once set up. The retrofit design fit my existing valve without plumbing changes, and pairing with the hub was straightforward. I like that it integrates with multiple smart home platforms, so I can control it through voice assistants. When paired with leak sensors, it shuts off water quickly, which is a big plus. The motor feels strong, though I did notice it struggles a bit with stiffer valves, so placement matters. Battery life has been solid so far, and the app makes scheduling easy. Overall, it’s a reliable smart upgrade, but best suited for valves that aren’t too tight.

Not an easy setup. Hopefully it will work from now forward. Setup instructions
I purchased this valve controller for my client’s project to control the main water supply, and I honestly expected an easy installation. Unfortunately, it turned out to be quite the opposite. The problem was not with the hub — my Aqara M2 Hub was online, updated, and trying to connect. The real issue was that the valve itself refused to identify itself to the hub. At first, it wouldn’t blink or go into pairing mode when pressing Reset. I even ordered a second controller, thinking maybe the first one was defective. Still, the exact same behavior. After forcing the valve into pairing mode (by removing a battery for a minute, holding Reset, and reinserting the battery while holding Reset), it finally started blinking. The hub recognized it, but then another problem appeared: the valve flashed red, and the hub kept saying “device cannot be added.” I updated the hub firmware, reconnected the hub to the network, and retried multiple times — still the same issue. Only after I completely reset the hub’s settings and then repeated the pairing process did the installation finally succeed. What worked for me in the end: 1. Update the hub firmware and reconnect it to the network. (Mine was an M2, but this likely applies to any Aqara hub.) 2. Force the valve into pairing mode: • Remove one battery and leave it out for about a minute. • Press and hold the Reset button. • While still holding Reset, insert the battery back. • The valve should start blinking and enter pairing mode. 3. If you still get a red light and “device cannot be added” error: reset the hub’s Zigbee settings (full reset) and then try the pairing again. 4. After that, scan the QR code and complete the setup. It was not easy, but this final sequence worked. Hopefully, this saves others from the same frustration.

Great solution for controlling valves.
Really like this valve control. It’s easy to install and works great. My only negative is the M3 hub is also required, but all in all it’s a very dependable system and easy to install.

Design flaw ruins what would have been a great product
Aqara connectivity and software are great as usual, install and pairing took 10 min, unit has good torque to actuate the handle. Bypass push button is a great feature to turn the valve by hand when needed. And price is great. So what’s wrong with it? Well, the pipe clamp is the achiles heel of this product and makes it unusable and unsafe. I have new-ish valves that turn smoothly and 1” piping, so I used the round clamp per instructions, tightened to the max. That should be stronger than the default clamp for 3/4” pipes. But it barely holds the unit in place opening the valve (swings wildly to the side), and when closing the valve the clamp slides off 90 degrees and not only fails to close the valve, but also made me afraid it was going to bend the handle or the pipe. You can see this happen in youtube reviews of this product, one guy even had to prop the unit against the wall with a wood board to prevent it from sliding. The mounting clamp here needs a complete redesign, perhaps to something similar to the Bulldog competitor. In the end I do not recommend this product for any application, whether 3/4” or 1” piping - it’s ineffective and potentially unsafe.

Works great, so happy I purchased it
This device is a fantastic addition to any smart home setup, particularly for those aiming to save money by preventing leaks and water damage. The installation process is straightforward; simply measure your pipe and use the correct fittings. I did need to perform a firmware update, but after that, the device performed flawlessly during tests with my existing water sensors. Highly recommended for its reliability and ease of use.

Easily Connected to my Home Assistant
Love this thing. I have 2 now. We've got water/leak detectors under all sinks, dishwasher, well pump, and near water heater. Depending on where a leak is detected, one will shut off the well water supply or the other will shut off the house waer supply. The both were easily detected and added to Home Assistant via Z2MQTT.

Awesome device!! It works as the ad!! Easy Installation: The installation process is relatively simple. It typically fits into existing plumbing systems without needing professional help—same thing configuration. Water Leak Detection: The device pairs well with Aqara’s sensors and can be part of a more comprehensive water leakage prevention system. If paired with a water leak detector, it can automatically turn off the water supply when a leak is detected, helping to prevent potential damage. And the most important thing is you don't lose control of your system; you can open and close your valve manually.

Really janky setup with no instructions. Didn't fit my pipe originally so I had to use a lot of washers that I had to widen the gap to fit my 1" mains valve. Took a long time to set up but it works It does what it's supposed to do, and that's why I'm keeping it
