Ridiculously hard...even for an Insanity and P90X graduate!
So I'm in my early 40's and as the title says, I'm a P90X and Insanity graduate. I've also done numerous other DVD workouts. And when I say numerous, I'm talking all the way from original TaeBo (VHS mind you), to the more recent Jillian Ripped in 30 and just about everything in between.Based on my experience with these workouts, this is just as hard as any of the Insanity workouts. Yes, even including the Plyometrics one.In this 60 minute brutality fest, you start out with 15 minutes of single weight work. Squats, swinging squats, dead lifts, suitcase swings...you name it, you're doing it. Doesn't sound tough, but use a 15 lb weight and get back to me on it. After that, it's pretty much game on...your heart will feel like it is coming out of your chest. It's so crazy, my brain has apparently blacked out the rest of the routine because I just finished and am having a hard time remembering everything I did!Yah, he has 3 ridiculously in shape people also in the video and guess what? He beats them into the ground. I mean literally pounds them down. At one point he asks if you can feel it in your legs and one woman says no. BIG mistake. He was on her like fly on stink. Yep, her legs were shaking and he wasn't let her off the hook. There is absolutely now doubt that this DVD will push even the most hard core workout groupies out there. The only other DVD that forced me to use a towel because of the sweat flying off my body was Insanity...until Bob's workout. You will need a towel to ebb the flow of sweat pouring from your skin. The workout has a countdown timer visible throughout the regimen which I enjoy. It displays what you are doing. The only downside is that I saw only one official "water break" on it for the whole hour. Trust me, you will need more.Easily, and I mean easily worth every penny you spend for this.

Wow!!
This is my second Bob Harper video, the first being his "Yoga for the Warrior" video from this same series. The yoga one is a good one overall and is now in my rotation of favorite yoga videos. But that's another story. This one, "Body Rev Cardio Conditioning," is a fantastic workout that continues to kick my butt each time. The funny thing is, I had thought I was already in pretty good shape when I ordered this, having just completed P90X and being midway through P90X2. But Bob takes things to a whole new level and reminds me that there is always room for improvement. What I think I like best about this is the pacing. There are times when this routine gets really hard, as is evidenced not only by my own struggles but by those of the three participants in this video who--despite all being pretty fit--have to stop and catch their breath several times during the workout. (He jokes at one point that the man in the video "will probably puke when this is done," and I totally sympathize with the guy.)Fortunately, Bob generally seems to understand when it's time to back off a bit. And so just when I'm reaching the point where I don't think I'm going to be able to go on, he switches it up with something that's not as strenuous. That gives me just enough time to catch my breath and motivate myself to push it till the end.Let me add a warning, though: this video is NOT for beginners! Unless you are already in fairly good shape and have been exercising quite regularly, then you definitely should not start with this routine. Go instead for Bob's "Beginners Weight Loss" video or some other early-stage workout program that will help you build your way up to this one.I can't say enough about how much I like this video. I'd highly recommended it for any serious fitness enthusiast who is looking for something fun, energetic and demanding that will help them take things to the next level.

Surprisingly hard workout
Background: It's only been recently that I started buying/using exercise DVDS (more accurately - I've always BOUGHT them, I just never USED them). I usually attend group fitness classes at the gym, but due to schedule changes, some of my favorite classes aren't offered at times that are convenient for me. Thus, I've turned my basement into an exercise lounge and have been using a variety of DVDs. Also, it's winter now and it's more difficult to get to the gym before work (OK, it's COLD out and that's why I don't want to go).On to the review: This DVD contains two workouts - one 60-minute workout and one 25-minute workout. I just finished the 60-minute workout (literally - I am sitting at my computer typing in my sweaty workout clothes). There is a brief warmup and then Bob starts in with a series of weighted deadlifts, squats, and swings. Those large muscle group exercises are followed by walkout pushups/planks (my trainer calls them inchworms) then repeat the deadlifts, squats, and swings. These moves are really good at getting your heart rate up and keeping it up. Lots of squat holds (oh, my aching quads!). These moves are repeated several times during the 60 minutes. Upper body work includes overhead presses and front raises. There are also a few plyometric moves incorporated - jump squats, ice skaters, "mosh pit" jumps (his term, not mine), etc. Also weighted jump rope (invisible jump rope required). There are jumping jacks, too, but I don't consider them a plyometric move. One of the three "video clients" does modified exercises for those with knee or other issues. You will need a couple of different hand weights to do this DVD. A single heavy weight for the deadlifts and swings and a lighter pair for the upper body exercises (at least, I needed a lighter set to complete the reps with good form). For the weighted jump rope, Bob recommends 3# for women and slightly heavier for men (I confess - not paying attention to his recommendation for guys). I've been working out with weights for a couple of years now and I will probably invest in a pair of 12# hand weights for the upper body lifts and maybe either an 18# or 25# kettlebell for the deadlifts & squats. This DVD is about cardio conditioning so it's not about how heavy you lift, it's about speed and reps.Last few minutes are devoted to ab work - standing crunches, oblique twists, etc. Then a quick (3 minute) cooldown and your'e done!Overall, I gave this DVD 4 stars. I burned a lot of calories (446 per my HR monitor) and feel like I got a little bit of strength training in with my cardio work and I enjoyed it. It's not fancy but these are the moves that will get your heart rate up and keep it up. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that Bob doesn't tell you to stop and take a break if you need it and doesn't remind you to drink water while you work out (I think there is one "scheduled" water break in 60 minutes). I think it's important that home users be reminded to only do what they can and to take breaks when needed. If I wasn't an experienced exerciser, I think I would have been intimidated by the workout and may not have finished it. Because I do know that I need to listen to my body, I took short breaks (10-15 seconds) to grab a drink and I completed the workout. And I will do the DVD again because I think it is a good workout.Final comments - experienced exercisers will get a good workout. Beginners can do this workout - just listen to your body, take breaks when you need them, drink some water, modify the moves as necessary and build up your endurance.Happy exercising!

Best Workout DVD
This DVD is absolutely amazing. I've tried dozens of workout DVDs but this one definitely is the best. Bob harper keeps your heart rate up throughout the whole workout. He brings it up to the point where you think you're going to collapse and then slows it down enough that you fall down into your optimal heart rate zone for maximum calorie burning. While he slows it down, you never stop moving and you're always burning calories. The modified version of the workout is extremely ideal for those who want to work out but have knee or hip problems. It's also a great place to start for those who may not be physically capable of keeping up with Bob. It's also great that those working out on the DVD actually look like they're tired and are sweating unlike some workout DVDs where the people seem as if the workout is easy. buy this DVD, you won't be disappointed with Bob!

Another tip-top full body blast!
The reason I'm coming to love Bob Harper is that he doesn't even begin to pretend that you can tip-toe round your lounge barely breaking a sweat for 20 mins a day and expect to see results in a week! You've got to really work your butt off whatever level you're at!For me, this still isn't as hard as "pure burn super strength" but it's still pretty full on! You need a lighter set of weights for the arm work (seriously go light because there are some fast shoulder reps in here) and a heavy weight (you can go pretty heavy with this one as its mostly used kettle bell style!).After a fairly gentle stretchy warmup, you go into a long series of dead lift, suitcase swings, kettlebell style swings and squats that slowly get your heart rate tripping along, before a series of walk out push ups into mountain climbers, jump squats and jacks. There is some repetition of sections and your heart rate will go up and down for the full hour. The last five minutes or so concentrates on some standing abs work that lets your heart rate come right down while you engage your core. The short 20 min work out is aimed at core and glute and is not meant to be a cardio workout - I tack it on the end of the full workout - its a series of balance moves with weights that really engage your legs and core.I enjoyed this as a work out and think it does what it says, and as ever Bob keeps you going with the pushing and encouraging along the way!I ordered this from all your music and again got region zero DVD that plays on any player!

I love you Bob!
I bought this DVD after I tried Bob's "Total Body Transformation", hoping to get a workout that was more cardio specific. This DVD is it! Bob uses weights and a whole lot of body movement to get your heart rate up and keep it up throughout the workout. It is a challenging workout that can be modified if you're not strong enough to do all of the full moves, while still giving you a great cardio workout. Bob makes you work hard but is encouraging enough to help you get through the whole hour. I would recommend this DVD any of my friends who are looking to get a great cardio workout and do some strength training too!

Not a favourite
I really didn't like this workout. Living in the UK I didn't know anything about Bob Harper so I read a lot of reviews of his exercise dvds on a USA site I use. Most of the reviewers love this dvd and rate it as very advanced although there are quite a few people felt the same as me. I didn't burn a huge amount of calories doing the workout (550 for 1hr 15mins) I didnt sweat a lot and I just didnt feel like I'd had a good workout. As the previous reviewer said, yes it is low impact which is good for joints, but it was very repetitive and I didnt find it advanced, although admittedly some of the individual exercises were, eg scorpion push-ups, which I hate!! In my opinion there are other more balanced and effective strength training workouts available eg Jillian Michaels No More Trouble Zones, Jari Love's Extremely Ripped.

Very Challanging.
I put this DVD on when I want someone to kick me in the butt. This video is so challenging, that the people in the background struggle, stop, cry and gasp for breath. This video is perfect for blasting fat, getting you to move, and pushing you to your extremes. The reason I didn't give this 5-stars is because I find it very hard to complete the whole video, and while I have something to push for, I find the impossibility of completing sort of daunting, giving me as feeling of dread, before I start. I know this DVD really kills me (hardly walk for days after) and that it's great for my health, but this isn't the DVD I turn to for my every day cardio. I recommend this though for people who really want to be pushed and have the most kick but cardio workout.
