They don't cycle. You choose or customize a color for the "display", and another color for the "key" color (surround and button color), for a pleasing color combo. Or make it all one color if you want. Once they're set, they stay that way, unless you change them, or disconnect the radio from power. Then you have to re-set the colors again. The bass generator button is awesome for fast tuning and showing off a system without messing up the daily EQ. Huge plus it has a microphone to add hands free calling, the noise suppression is fantastic I have this in my old truck that's usually about 90db in the cab on the road and people have no issue hearing me.
