Review of OXO Good Grips Silicone Basting & Pastry Brush-Small We had a good quality / brand basting brush, but we found that the bristles were likely to come out pretty much every time that we used. My wife loves the dishwasher, but *I* am not a big fan and just wash things "old school" when I'm doing stuff. I put the brush into the hot sudsy water, got distracted and it was left to soak in there for almost an hour. When I returned to finish up, the whole bristle pack fell out of the handle and that was that. My wife definitely wanted another basting brush, but asked that I see what the options are, because picking bristles off our food was not something that she wanted to ever do again. We have some silicone spatulas, so I thought that this would be worth a shot. This OXO has turned out to be a VERY good choice. For us, the nicest thing is to not have to worry about the bristles, but also, it's easy to hold and use for my wife's small hand and mine and cleans up reasonably well. The cleaning of it is kind of hard to gauge. We don't use the dishwasher for this, I suspect that you shouldn't and it's not worth it to us to risk the brush by testing it. The silicone has a slightly "slick" feel so after washing you may wonder, is that just the nature of a silicone brush OR did we not get all the butter washed off? In the end, this is a super nice basting brush and we would buy it again. In fact, we'll probably order the larger brush. I would recommend it to friends.

Great product works as advertised!

These are not just for cooks. I will never be a cook nor a chef. I am a writer/director/producer. I also like food and am a vegetarian. My spouse and I both prepare our own food. Obviously, it is normal to prepare one's own food and eat at home. This type of OXO basting brush is great for that. I found out I had to get two as often my spouse and my vegetarian breakfasts require both olive oil and canola oil. We even use them to lubricate our bread pans and paddles on our bread machines. Since all of our bread and rolls are homemade our bread machines get quite a workout and it is that much easier for them to make bread with a little olive oil coating the bread pan and paddle. The basting brush makes it quick and easy. I was using my Zildjian metal drum brushes as basting brushes for my Tofurky (veggie faux turkey, ) and other things but since they are metal I could not use them on non stick surfaces. So after many years I bought this type of basting brush. It works great. I still think my Zildjians look much more snazzy and still enjoy basting my Tofurky with them. If this OXO pastry brush looked fancier I would give it 5 stars. The bristles do have a fantastic mathematically engineered design for cooking oil flow that my metal Zildjian drum brushes obviously do not.

Quality materials. Nice and thick plastic handle that feels great in the hands. Doesn't feel cheap at all. The bristles are a nice and thick rubbery material and in the middle of the bristles are specially designed ones that does a good job at holding extra "fluid" of whatever you're using to help spread it out. Perfect handheld sized. I like using it to add flavor to meats or adding some oil or butter to veggies. The angled tip is a nice touch to lessen the drip and mess when placing it down. Recommended!
