COMPARISON OF TOP THREE BRANDS
I am writing a review of three toilet cleaning systems I've bought here on amazon: Fluidmaster : Uses a cartridge containing a chlorine based tablet. Cartridge is not meant to be refilled. Chlorine odor noticeable in the bathroom. Cartridge can be modified (I used a dremel) so it is easily refilled. NeverScrub : Uses a cartridge containing a chlorine based crystal. Cartridge is not meant to be refilled. Chlorine odor noticeable in the bathroom. Kaboom : Does not use a cartridge. Bromine tablet refill inserts directly by unscrewing a cap. No odor noticeable in the bathroom. All three of these systems work the same way and all are really easy to install. All of them put a toilet cleaning chemical (tablets or crystals) in-line between the water fill valve and the toilet bowl fill pipe. All of them prevent the chemical from getting into the tank water (so there is no damage to the plastic parts in the tank). All sell refills for their systems. All keep the toilet bowl equally clean for about 1-3 months depending on how often it is flushed. Amazon also sells Pool/Spa Cleaning Chlorine and Bromine tablets, which as far as I can tell do just as good a job keeping the toilets clean as the refills but at a fraction of the cost. I have tried all of the following, each of which provide enough tablets to keep all the toilets in the house clean for 10 years and they are all very cheap: Kem-Tek 177 : The tablets fit well in the dremel-tool modified Fluidmaster cartridges. The tablets fit well in the Kaboom. The bathroom has a slight chlorine odor. Spa-Kem 267 : The tablets are too large to fit in the Fluidmaster cartridges. The tablets fit well in the Kaboom. No odor. Tropi Clear : The tablets fit well in the dremel-tool modified Fluidmaster cartridges. The tablets fit well in the Kaboom. No odor. Chlorine and Bromine are fairly equal in cleaning ability. Chlorine has that chlorine odor. Bromine is broken down by sunlight. Which is why, on a sunny day, outdoor pools use chlorine. But at night, or indoors, or on a cloudy day, they use bromine since there is no smell. Summary. The Fluidmaster system works but the cartridges are expensive. To refill the cartridges easily requires a small modification with a dremel tool. The cartridge is too small for any tablets larger than 1 inch in diameter. The NeverScrub system also works but the cartridges are expensive. What I am using is the Kaboom system with the bromine tablets (either the Tropi Clear or the Spa-Kem 267 ) as they have no odor and clean just as well as the chlorine tablets.

Highly recommended! Best toilet bowl cleaner I've ever used!
I've tried about every toilet bowl cleaner on the market. This one actually really works. Yes, there is the occasional "event" that causes you to use a brush, but for every-day use it works fantasticly. I never have to brush that ugly pink slime that develops. Bowl is always clean around the edges and the water is sparkling clear. I live in Phoenix where the water is EXTREMELY hard. I used to have to get down and scrub the bowl with a pumice stone about every 2 months just to keep the calcium ring down to a dull roar. With this product I've noticed no ring build-up after a year of use. There is a slight odor right after a flush, but certainly nothing objectionable. Installation took about 5 minutes. Easy as pie! I live alone, so I don't flush more than a few times a day. Tablets last about 3-4 months. Really a great system. Highly recommended.

The Kaboom Starter system before purchasing extra refills. Potential concerns that may arise
The Church & Dwight Kaboom Toilet Clean System is a starter pack system that includes the housing and one tablet/cartridge for usage. I initially wrote a review on the Kaboom refill tablets section with a few concerns that I am going to mention and quote here as well. Based on review of Kaboom Refill tablets: "The Kaboom Scrub Free! Continuous Clean Toilet Cleaning Refill Tablets have been really useful, but I do not quite see myself using it in the long term. It does help "clean" my toilet, but there are some concerns that have crossed my mind, though not proven yet. I initially purchased this product because my toilet began to smell awkward like as if the water turned into some sewage water of some kind, but the water is of course clear. I also see that my toilet began to grow some standard mold around the bowl. Yes, I could have cleaned it like any person would, however, this has occurred frequently than it usually does and I find it very strange. I scoured the internet like any typical person would to seek any form of advice to solve this issue and I stumbled upon several post where people said that the Kaboom product was the one that helped solved their issue. I quickly went on Amazon to see if they carry it, and lo-and-behold they did. I ordered this and ordered the housing separate (This item is refills only and need to purchase the housing separately). The instructions where quite self explanatory and It took no longer than a couple of minutes to install and reroute the water hose in the toilet. you place the tablet in the housing and snap back the Kaboom housing cover as well as the toilet cover and that is it. You wont see results immediately, however, a few flushes, you will see results. The smell went away and I have less mold growing around the areas around the toilet bowl. I was extremely pleased with the results. The Kaboom Scrub Free! Continuous Clean Toilet Cleaning Refill Tablets do not excrete any coloring of some sort like the other brands do, so that is something I liked. Read the instructions in the booklet provided on how long you have to keep changing the tablets for because each tablets do not last for a long time. Now for the part that concerns me, although not proven yet but only my thoughts and opinions. These Kaboom tablets I know are made of some sort of chemicals in order to have it neutralize the water small as well as minimize mold build-up around the toilet bowl. When you flush the toilet, the new batch of water already came in contact with the Kaboom tablets so essentially there is water infused in these chemicals. Lets say hypothetically if you were to go to the bathroom and have to do a #2 and instead of a graceful fall, it was a violent splash and the inevitable happens where the toilet water ricochets back at your Tush. Now, the water infused chemical has come in contact to your tush. Easy thing is that you can wipe it off, but if in contact, is it safe? Kaboom does say that it is safe, however, to what extent are you talking about though? There are numerous products we use that claims its safe, but a few months to years, they have studies later on saying that it is a potential risk in health. Sure everything we use everyday can be a huge risk, but that is up to you whether you want to take that risk or not. I'm only here just to warn and enlighten you on possibilities just in case you have not thought about it. In the end, I used it until I didn't have anymore tablets and discarded the rest in the trash as I have no use of it as the water smell has been gone the the fear of potential health risk factors if used in the long term. All I can say is that it did the job extremely well during my usage, but it was unfortunate that it has led up to me ultimately deciding to discard it." It is nice to see that this Kaboom system is different than others where others have a tablet that needs to be dropped to the corner of the toilet system whereas this system has a housing where you conveniently insert the tablet in the housing and that is it. Very different and quite innovative, but likewise, As said in my previous statement that I sadly will not be using this product anytime soon unless I find a safer way to approach toilet cleaning in a better manner. In the meantime, back to the traditional manual scrubbing method.

Item doesn’t fit in my cistern. Tried contacting the company to discuss and have had no success

This product never keeps its original price. Given it doesn't work on modern toilets neither the chemicals cause issues with the system itself. I unfortunately ordered 2 one arrived as a empty box. The second arrived and never worked I soaked the one 'free' tablet in the water, which caused it to break down the system and cause leaks within the toilet. This has to be a scam from the sellers.

This product is terrific......keeps toilet bowl clean as advertised. Will purchase tablets again.

Definitely reduced the numbers of toilet bowl cleaning. Also like the size of tablet container, which allows to put any cleaning/bromine tablets as well.

This device will only work in U.S. toilets and will not take returns.
