Review: Pros and cons - Ok. My first gingerbread house and while silently being observed by someone who has made many, in the aftermath here are our pros and cons. Pros. It came shipped with all parts unbroken. The gingerbread flavor was very nice. All of the candy that came with is tasted really nice as well. The instructions and setup were clear and simple. After a little trial and error it came out great and we had a fun time and were very pleased. Cons. At room temperature (70°f) it took a lot longer than expected for the frosting to harden, however after it did, it was very solid. Many pieces slid down while trying to decorate too early. Eventually we just let it sit overnight to let the main structure set before decorating. Some of the walls had to be trimmed to fit better. Not a huge deal. We used a vegetable peeler to smooth them. Our take. Highly recommended. Now that we know the nuances the one next year will be better. We took it out of its plastic base and put down some fake snow and jar light to fancy it up. We will definitely buy it again.
Review: Buying this kit was such a good decision! - Before my family arrived, I was wishing that I had time to make a gingerbread house. I didn’t think I would find a gingerbread house kit on desertcart, but on a lark I looked. When I saw “Nabisco” and that it wasn’t imported, I ordered this kit. It arrived perfectly packaged and 100% in tact. The only thing was the icing would not soften, which could be a problem for some. I keep meringue powder on hand, so I whipped up some royal icing and made a little parchment paper forcing bag. There’s a plastic form base to assemble the 4 walls on. A cardboard roof template slides over the roof so it can dry in place on the walls without slipping off. I was most impressed. I used to make 100’s of graham cracker houses over empty mini milk cartons for all my children’s classes and the roofs were always difficult part. My grandson is 3. He is currently obsessed by colours and rainbows so he arranged extra candy that I bought into a “rainbow” on either side. He had a blast. If I had any complaints, the icing wouldn’t work, the candy was skimpy (which is why I bought more) and my walls stuck to the plastic base so it had to stay as part of the house. My grandson certainly didn’t care or notice! Still giving it 5 stars!

Well. I shouldn't quit my day job to go on a baking show just yet, ya'll! The kit was great. I do have arthritis so squeezing the tube was difficult even after massaging it as instructed. Good value for the money and made for a hilarious memory with my child, who had specifically requested we build a gingerbread house this year.
