Perfect for my needs. Socket to me!
I don't have a full socket set. Rather mostly SAE with a few metrics of different sizes. To buy a non configurable holder would leave gaps and would waste drawer space. This holder fits the bill. I had some confusion how it worked from the on line description, so here goes: The tray holds 3 rails. Each rail can be unlocked and detached separately, so you can carry a bunch of sockets to the job if you are not sure of the size you need. Each rail starts with 15 socket holders. They are each detachable from the rails. You can put any combination of holders on any rail at any distance so you can mix 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 size SAE and metric on any rail. The set comes with 15 of each size - total 45. You can purchase more but I didn't need to. There are stick on labels provided if you need them. I haven't decided yet whether to use them. Each individual holder twists to lock the socket. The socket slides easily on and off the unlocked holder and holds firmly when locked. Between my socket heads and adapters I have used about 75% of the spaces. My spark plug socket just fits vertically in my craftsman 2 inch deep work bench drawer with drawer liner. I have about half the drawer left over for ratchet handles and a wrench set. Product is high quality plastic and should last a long time. Price was very fair for this level of functionality and quality. You could mount this on a wall if you wish. You would likely want to keep the sockets locked until use - very easy and convenient to do. I hope this description helps. I bought this without full knowledge of functionality and it turned out to be an extremely versatile design and exactly right for me. Additional info: I have just added the Ernst wrench holder set (reviewed separately). I cut it in half to fit the remaining drawer space (Craftsman 11 x 22 inch.) Now wrenches and sockets are all in the same spot and arranged beautifully. Yes, a little OCD, but so satisfying.

Perfect socket organizer.
I'm a diesel mechanic by trade. I have been on the hunt for a quality socket organizer. The things I look for are secured sockets, easy to remove sockets, compactness, labeling, looks, and price. These hit every single criteria. The twist lock feature is easy to use. I can simply not lock the sockets if I choose to for easy access. Very good fit in my toolbox. The selling feature on these is how much you can customize them. I could easily move the individual bits of each drive size around. Also being able to remove rows is a major plus. All around a great set for a reasonable price. The color is also fantastic to look at. I love the included stickers. This allows me to easily organize socket sets that skip sizes, simply move to the next label. I would like some 3/4 bits for some adapters and random large sockets, but I'm not sure if Ernst sells them. Look no further, just buy these, you won't regret it!

Great for large socket sets
These fit large socket sets, 8-24 mm no skips. The rack is sturdy enough to be carried around with these sockets. I use it to have all of my metric sockets in my tool box in one spot. I swapped a rail from another Ernst kit for the 1/4โ set. The three rails are good for shallow mid and deep but I have not/may not commit to buying a middle depth socket set. The turn lock feature is nice, you can flip the whole rack over if itโs locked in and nothing will come out. Overall professional grade, American made, great for the pro or serious DIYer. Will be buying more for other socket sets, portable boxes, etc.

Good Storage Solution But!
This is just what the dotor ordered to help me organize my scokets and keep track of them. You would think that I would learn my lesson and pay attention and measure things before i buy them on Amazon. I just received it and it is too wide for my drawers on my tool box. But i have one of those cheap $99 tool boxes that are a small version of the big $500 tool boxes. So if your going to get this, then measure your tool box. I am keeping ito though as it is awesome and works well. The only reason that i do not give it 5 stars is: 1. It does not come with the pieces to lock in your ratchet 2. They charge $9 for two pieces to clip a ratchet. Really? That is rediculous. So I was forced to pay another $9 to get the two pieces. You would think for $9, you would four or six more clamps. Pretty dissapointed in this manufacturer for this. They know you need it and thats why they picture it with them.

Excellent Storage
Excellent storage solution for all my sockets. The material doesn't feel cheap and the slide off tracks are clutch. Definitely recommend multi color for various socket types.

Great Price! You get a lot for your money
Lets start with price. No matter you choice there is a ton of value. For what is included it is very hard to find anything better. The lock and slide feature is flawless. Even with the rails loaded it is easy to remove and replace it. If you do not like the placement of a rail. You can just swap rails to a new location. Customization. There are so many options and even some color choices. You can choose blue, red, Hig Vis. Pretty much any combination of them. Having the option to choose 3 or 2 rail in 13 or 19 inch is amazing. You can even opt to have just the rails alone. Do not have every socket in a set or maybe have sizes that are not common. This is no problem for this set. Remove or slide the locking pegs. Want the rail to have 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 no worries you can do that. There are stickers to label everything once you determine what works best for you. Now for the negatives. As with anything nothing is perfect. With all the customization to make this the way that you want it comes at a cost. That cost is not really in actual dollars. Because the price is very reasonable. The real cost is your time. The options are so endless that you will spend what feel like eternity trying to determine what is best for you. Even after hours of tinkering you will find another layout that you would prefer. Great you have a layout and general idea how you will use everything. Now it is time to label. They provide a great deal of little tiny stickers to identify every torx, socket ect... That you own and have place in this. Well lets just say if you are like me. You question if you really need all these sockets ( THE ANSWER IS YES). Plan for a project because it truly is. To sum it up. Yes this is a very tedious project and very time consuming. However the outcome is worth every second that you spend on it. I am have not completely made it 100 percent yet. But the outcome so far is amazing. Would I recommend this to a friend? Absolutely. Even an enemy because I know they will be busy for sometime. Would I purchase again? Already planning on it. I want to thank you for taking the time to read this. Take care and have a great day.

Never knew i needed this until now!
I normally dont write reviews. Mainly because I order so much from Amazon, id spend a lot of time reviewing and not enough time browsing. I was recently looking on Amazon for some new toolbox organizing ideas and came across these Ernst manufacturing socket organizers. At first I was a bit put off on the price, especially when other socket organizers on Amazon were significantly less expensive. At first, I looked at the reviews on this Ernst 3 rail system and how others used it in their toolbox's. I really liked most of the reviews. Then I dug into the company a bit and seen these are made in the USA, and in Sandy Oregon (Portland) too! I took the plunge and ordered a 3 rail tray and really, really liked how they fit in my toolbox. So, I ordered 5 more 3 row trays and the socket boss extention pack. I love the color options, used green for metric and blue for SAE. Ran out of time tonight to organize things a little better, and get the other 2 socket boss organizers in the bottom drawers. But so far im pleasantly surprised at the quality and craftsmanship of these. Ill most definitely be ordering a few more! Tip for anyone putting these in a U.S. general 5 drawer tool cart... I used a grinder and cut off the dog legs (little tabs on the ends). That made these fit perfectly in the top section vertically on the tool cart. I was able to get 4 of the 3 rail socket boss's into the top compartment.

Ernst line of tool storage
I purchased several of this three rail and several of the two rail and several wrench holders, all Ernst. Very impressed. Took me a long time to order, trying to find the best size, 13" or 19", 2 or 3 rail, with or without the tray to fit my tool boxes. I have several of the Craftsman 52" bottom chest, used as a workbench base, no wheels, all half drawers. The drawers measure 23.375" X 16.5" different heights. Found that one 3 rail and three 2 rails @ 19" fit perfectly in the 16.5" deep with about 2.63" left over on one side. (3.63" X 3 + 5.3" = 16.19"), darn close. Love not wasting space. Quality, very good. Holds all my 1/2" drive and 3/8" drive, both chrome and impact. Upside down just like the images. Even shook them some and small drop on workbench. All held good. Can't expect a drop on the floor to hold them. As others have said, the 1/4" are the weak point. Over bought the 1/4" but the rails are interchangeable. (Wish Ernst would exchange all my extra 1/4" clips for 3/8" and 1/2" clips), just a dream. I purchased all through Amazon, but a service rep at Ernst was super helpful, she returned my email within 24 hours. Unheard of now-a-days. She just couldn't match the prices with free shipping, but I would rather purchase directly. I'm into storage trays, sockets and wrenches, for a little over $400 already and have more in my wish list. OCD at it's best. Of course, I will have some free space, for expansion in the future. And I haven't installed the labels yet. But as per other reviews, it seems the tabs need to be cleaned before installing the labels. FYI, I put Metric in one column of drawers and SAE in another. Wrenches, Hex, Chrome & impact in each column. Works good, but leaves some free space. Then the Torx and E Torx don't have a drawer, but put then in the metric side, the most used. And a very hard question to get answered is the height of the rails with trays. Really close to 3/4", (which Ernst cust rep answered), So my tallest deep well socket on the rail on a drawer liner fits in the 4.125" drawers. But you will need full pull drawers. All in all, great addition to my shop, will do a youtube review if Ernst will send me stuff to review.

Best In Class But Should Be Better!!
Ernst makes the most customizable solution with several colours (red, blue, green, orange, black and high-viz yellow) of rails in 3 sizes (8โ, 13โ and 18โ) with interchangeable socket clips (1/4โ, 3/8โ, 1/2โ and 3/4โ drive) and accessories for ratchet and extension holders. That (the extremely flexible customizability) makes Enst Socket Boss the best solution available. But it should be better. They should offer all colour rails in all sizes. They should offer larger trays for the rails to snap into (besides just 2 rail and 3 rail trays). And they should offer solutions for screwdriver storage that use the same rail system. Some of these things can be mitigated by purchasing and modifying longer green and orange rails to fit the shorter trays. Also, Iโve had to buy Tekton rails to get the grey colour. Lastly, there should be a socket clip package for Milwaukee Insider sockets, although I will be drilling out some 3/4โ clips for that purpose. So here is the bottom line: Ernst Manufacturing, if you are paying attention, step it up!!

Good, adaptable socket organizer
I am very pleased with this organizer. Very flexible system with extra clips easily interchangeable. Had most of my sockets already stored and needed something to keep all of my duplicates in one place. This worked perfectly; bought an extra set of 3/8 clips and now have all my extra 3/8 std, metric and my 1/4" STD/Metric in one compact storage unit. Doesn't take up a lot of drawer space either. The twist lock feature can be a little finicky at first with some sockets, but it all worked out okay. Good product at a fair price.

High quality and completely modular, by having my sockets on these rail sets instead of blow moulded cases ive saved a tonne of room in my toolbox
