Mei HuaChinese Clothing (Introductions to Chinese Culture)

Very informative text; lots of illustrations and a well-written text.

Although I am yet to buy this book but it appears to be a promising book, the story is told by a native who will be able to give a proper insight into Chinese culture and history. I will buy this book!

I was expecting something a little more academic with notes & a bibliography, coming from Cambridge University Press, but you can't really fault the book for that. The only negative criticism I have is that the illustrations tend to lag a page or two behind the text describing them, and that the end sections of xiaoshu minzu clothing and modern fashion feel a bit tacked on. Other than that, it's a fairly well-written and well-translated survey book covering a very vast topic. The book uses pinyin romanization, which IMHO is a plus.

I purchased this while doing research on historical clothing in China. I was specifically looking at the more ancient clothing of the Han and Wei Dynasties. This book was a fabulous introduction; just informative enough to start the process, but not an overwhelming amount of information. Color pictures were also helpful. Would definitely recommend to the historical costumer that is new to Chinese clothing.

Ho letto questo libro per avere un panorama generale sull'abbigliamento cinese e devo dire che mi è servito. In ogni caso il libro è poco approfondito e molte delle informazioni contenute vengono riproposte in innumerevoli siti internet. Le foto sono belle, ma qualche volta non vengono spiegate.

It was not what I expected, but I did enjoy the read. Very informative.
