OxfordOF697 Hotgrips CRUISER with Chrome switch

The control unit
The grips were very easy to fit as well as the wiring. However who in their right mind would fit that cheap and nasty control unit. Made from tacky plastic, and the fitment, of two bits of sticky plastic. When I tested the grips before fitting they heated up, so as per the instructions I fitted them. Then when the job was complete i found they turned on but not off, I tested this by leaving them connected all night and low and behold a flat battery in the morning. The LED light did not illuminate at all. The instruction manual was no use, so the end of the story is, I had to fork out a further £28.00 for a decent Oxford controller. I am shocked that a company such as Oxford would produce such an item, and that Amazon would sell it.

Gracious me they work!
Fitted to my Honda VT750 Shadow Spirit... and by crikey they work well.Fitted straight out of the box as it were, onto the 1" bars (and throttle, due to the inner sleeve adaptor tube thing that comes with the kit), so a good job there.I took my time to make it a good install (cable routing, securing, sealing, testing etc) and took a couple of hours in total I think it was. When I say "sealing" I took the liberty to use good old self amalgamating tape to seal the plugs once all was in place. That way it should reduce the risk of any corrosion sneaking into to the connections. It was a relatively simple install given my technical background, but most would have little trouble installing them in truth.I did find the "super" glue that came with them was awful for (not) sticking the grips in place, and ended up having to use a well known brand (that might rhyme with "plocktite", if you take my meaning!).. and the tie-wraps (cable ties) were so brittle they snapped at first use so I used my own.Definitely use a long tie-wrap to hold the control knob on though, as it does appear to be designed as such. OK, the knob is a bit plastic looking, but a fairly tasteful "Oxford" badge with inset red LED makes it look fit for the job, and it is easy to switch on/off and adjust with winter gloves on too. When fitting the grips make sure you position them so the cables etc aren't in the way of controls or levers (eg the clutch) before thinking about the glue. I was also mindful to leave a "lazy loop" for the throttle to turn with no problem, not so long as it dangles, not so short as it might get stressed over time with the back-and-forth twisting.Generally build quality is very good indeed. The grips are sturdy and of high quality appearance, and the installation was fairly easy, given the time I took to get it perfect first time. They also have an extra set of chrome caps in the box too.How are they in use? Crumbs they are good! This week it's been -2 Celsius in the mornings (yes, that's minus two, no typo)... I fire up the bike while wheeling it out the garage, and switch the grips on to 100%. Within a couple of minutes you can feel the heat appearing, and I wear those winter Lobster style double-fingered mittens. In the first 3-4 minutes you can tell the heat it building thus they already prevent the chill creeping in. By the time I've done something like 7 or 8 minutes I'm on the motorway and they are rather hot! A few miles further down (perhaps 10 minutes riding) they're burning the palms of my hands so it's either adjust my grip to let them cool while keeping fingers & thumbs in firm contact, or turn them down. I've turned them down to 75% after about 5 minutes riding and they still continue to get quite hot.Previously I've ridden without these grips in sub zero temperatures for the commute, which thankfully isn't too far at 14 miles, but once on the motorway it has taken maybe 6-7 miles before the chill bites the fingertips with the winter gloves on. Though I’m far from being a fair-weather biker I think any further and it could be risking frost bite! With these on the bike I've ridden not knowing just how cold it is outside!Well recommended, and at the price I found it from Amazon (about the £62 mark) they’ve been an absolute bargain too, thanks Amazon.

Heated Grips.
These are excellent heated grips and very easy to fit. They look smart but it would have been better if the 'chrome' switch unit and 'chrome' end caps were actually chrome and not plastic. Other than that, they do match in with the rest of my bike. The right hand grip can get very hot if it is set above half way for any length of time. The other thing that lets them down is that the left hand grip is designed to fit straight onto the handlebars. If you fit them like in the instructions, the left grip will not get hot as the metal handlebar acts a heat sink and draws the heat away. This doesn't happen with the right grip because of your throttle slider. I would suggest talking with people or looking on the internet as to what is best to fit to your bike under the left grip, in order to reflect the heat outwards instead of through the bar.All in all these are good grips but with small let downs. I would recommend them to other cruiser riders for use.

Keep your hands warm!
Not too hard to install. Look decent and keep your hands toasty, have to turn them down on rides or my hands get too warm! Essential for winter rides. The controller is plastic and so are the end caps but thats expected. Used my own super glue as seen that the supplied glue isn't brilliant.

Great set of heated grips
Great set of heated grips, at idle they may seem a little cold but once the alternator is putting out more then they really heat up. Though as a few have mentioned the left one does sink its heat into the bar. Some better insulation between the elements and bar would be handy

Item description is a lie. These are for 1 ...
Item description is a lie. These are for 1 inch bar cruisers. Won't fit a adventure bike which have 3/4 inch handle bars

Not suitable for Harley Davidson
An additional throttle slider is required for these to fit a Harley Davidson and these are no longer supplied by Oxford. The controller is large and ugly chromed plastic held on by cable ties, not exactly an attractive addition to your cruiser. Would work better if you have a fairing with somewhere inconspicuous to stick it.Returned product and decided to put up with cold hands.
