How do these lghts turn on. Does it have to be connected to a light switch on the wall or is there a pull cord option. Thank you.

There is no switch on the individual lights. They do have to be connected (by a suitably qualified person) to either a wall switch or a pull cord switch. Mine are connected to the same pull cord switch as the existing ceiling lights.

Is the glass shade open or closed at the top?

Dear SK,There are may different G9 LED's on the market, this fitting is pretty forgiving as the length is no real issue and the width on most G9 LEDs is not an issue.
