Good quality poor performance
I was surprise by how poorly this shrimp peeler performed. Usually I can count on products made by OXO, but not this one. As indicated in my headline, the quality is good. It is definitely sturdy, but in performance for me that was not enough. I read and followed the instructions on how to use the peeler. The claim is that it is able to peel a shrimp in one motion. Not the case for me. I think that it's size, which is rather large made it ineffective for the size shrimp I had, which depending whose sizing, could be considered medium to large. This peeler looks like it could easily peel jumbo shrimps. So, it well might be that the size is wrong for me. It would be good if on the advertising they would include suggested size shrimp that this peeler should be used for. The price point was not cheap. I really could have bought 2 or more peelers for what this one cost, but I figured with the name OXO how could I go wrong- well, I indeed went wrong. So, I am back to using a particular serrated knife that resembles a small boning knife- it curves just right for doing the job of peeling shrimps. Goes to show you, why try to fix something that's not broke. I would not recommend this shrimp peeler unless you are peeling jumbo shrimps, I think it would work for that size.

2nd best tool around
For a couple reasons I name this the 2nd best brand of this tool. There is another brand, which I would give a 5th star, but I can't seem to find it here on the mainland...guess I'll have to go back home to the Caribbean to get another one of those. This is the 2nd one of this particular brand that I have owned. Bought the first one last summer, and it worked great. Then, I made the mistake of leaving it for another cook to use on my days off. Of course, on my next day, I returned to find it broken. I blame my careless co-workers first. However, this tool is made of hard, brittle plastic, and has a grip that is jam-fitted, and these were the points of breakage. The other brand that I speak of hast the same type of design, which has no equal for the job, but it is made of a single piece of molded, semi-flexible plastic.A warning here; it IS NOT the red plastic one that you will find on Amazon. Those things are useless. The key features to look for are the teeth on the tip and hilt. They grab the vein, and severe the shell in one stroke, and cut the labor time on your shrimp to about 1/3, as well as being far safer than a knife or metal tool.If you can find the softer plastic one grab it, otherwise, buy this one, and don't loan it out.

If you use this correctly, you won't have any problems
I'm not exactly sure how there are so many people who struggle with this tool, but I've found it to be very helpful and a major upgrade from the methods I'd use prior to buying this tool (I used to use a paring knife or a barbecue skewer). I lay my shrimp in my palm, back side up, then, starting from the head-side of the shrimp, I slide the tool along the back of the shrimp. The tool doesn't shred my shrimp at all and somehow it "catches" all of the shrimp's digestive tract and I can rinse the tool off in a cup of cold water in between each shrimp.I rarely purchase single-purpose kitchen tools, but this one was small enough so that it doesn't take up much more room than say, a butter knife and the amount of time and frustration it saves me makes it worth it.

Works with ease
Seems to work fine. Some difficulty trying to get raw shells off. Possibly try to parBoil the shrimp first to help.

Just really, really works.
I normally don't like single use tools. But some jobs do require a specifically engineered tool. Cleaning those curved shrimp is one of those jobs. And this OXO tool does a really good job. I had not noticed how much "unclean" stuff I was leaving behind with my old cleaner. This OXO feels good in your hand, doesn't slip when your hands get wet and slick during the cleaning. And does not tear up the shrimp while doing its job. This is why I buy OXO when available. Their products might cost more initially, but they last and last while working better than others.

Shrimp cleaner
What's not to like? Hold the shrimp in one hand, slide the blade into the "spine" of the shrimp and lift up. The blade splits the shell and cuts a groove along the vein line. Slip the meat from the shell and with a quick rinse, the vein is out and you have a nice shrimp left to prepare however you like.CAUTION - as stated in the instructions, do not put in dishwasher, it will ruin the tool.

Oxo Shrimp Cleaner
After years of using pairing knives I decided it was time to purchase a shrimp cleaner. This Oxo tool did the job with much more ease and was a time saver. It is a bit long almost 8” from tip to bottom of handle. My hands are small and the cushioned handle felt comfortable. The blade is made of sturdy plastic which can go into the dishwasher.

Works great
Peels and deveins shrimp beautifully. I purchased this item before and it warped in the dishwasher so it has to be washed by hand. Bought this one as a replacement

Works… kind of
I understand the negative reviews. This tool really doesn’t do anything better than your paring knife. The serrations aren’t sharp enough and can sometimes mangle a shrimp if you force it. Also, if your shrimp aren’t fresh (I’m in the Midwest), then they’re not as firm to begin with. I will probably go back to using a small knife. In theory this tool seems great. In practice… meh.

Easy & quick
Works best with larger shrimps. Inexpensive tool to make things easier. Insert tip between upper shell and meat and push all the way through in one stroke. Do not hesitate, otherwise it will not remove shell cleanly. It will be impossible to cut your hand because it is on the bottom pf the shrimp.

It's okay...
I really really wanted to like this more than I do. I read all of the reviews that said how easy it was to use, then when I got it there was one comical looking cheesy picture showing how to use it. I am not a cooking novice, but I felt like a real retard trying to use this. Several mangled shrimp later, I finally got the idea, but still continued to mangle the occasional shrimp. And the thing is, I think it took me more time to mangle the shrimp with this thing than to peel shrimp manually. I gave it three stars because if you have a lot of tenacity, and you want to devein and that is really important to you, this will devein the shrimp nicely, if you don't mess up. I just find that this complicates things too much for me about two thirds of the time. Take this as you will.

Good grips shrimp cleaner has good grip and cleans shrimp
I've never used any other shrimp cleaner beyond a good sharp kitchen knife. With that perspective, this works quite well, though not quite as magically as the ad copy might suggest. Maybe 3X as fast as I can do with the kitchen knife. Easy to hold, easy to clean. The instructions don't mention removing both veins (top and bottom) but the cleaner works quickly enough that you'll do that too.I did snap the tip when using the tool to open a container. Apparently not every tool in the kitchen doubles as a prybar. For the price, I bought one for a neighbor, can buy another to replace my busted tip, and may just stuff one in a stocking this Christmas.
