Delightful companion novella to the Golden City trilogy!
This novella was such a delight! I had already read the Golden City trilogy so I was familiar with the world and a number of the characters. So I could just jump into the story and enjoy the plot! When you are a seer, you literally see the future but what you see does not come with either explanations nor context. You might see the woman who will be your wife (or your second mother, if you are a young child). But you have no idea what actions or inactions lead to that future. Of course, nothing is labeled so until you find out WHO that unknown woman is, you don't know who your future wife is, either. The Seer's choice is a lovely comedy of manners. Almost like Jane Austen but set in Portugal instead of England. You can also read it on its own but I highly recommend reading the Golden City trilogy first - Golden City, Seat of Magic, & the Shores of Spain. I considered it a highly satisfying dessert after the trilogy meal!

Tender, sweet romance in the midst of a life and death situation in a thoroughly researched alternate history setting
A novella of the Golden City trilogy The Seer's Choice exhibits the same detailed, well researched worldbuilding as the trilogy. You can read this without having read the trilogy but your reading experience will be much richer if you have. This novella takes minor characters from the trilogy and fleshes them out to full life. The romance is charming and sweet and the police hunt terrifying and poignant. I can't say more without spoiling it, but this story is definitely worth your while.

Romance and danger, enticing read
Really enjoyable. Genoveva is a minor character in the Golden City trilogy, but here she gets her own story. She's a Healer, with powers to control people's energies at a touch. What she has to learn is how to control her powers. While under threat from a wild magical man who might kill her. And getting engaged to her Captain in the Special Police. Great story, especially if you liked the Golden City books.

Side trip.
Just a little side trip in the wonderful world of the Seirias of Portugal, following two characters that couldn't get a full treatment in the three "Golden City" novels. ANd so nice to see what happened to them, and such a well written short story.

Happy to be back in this universe
I love Cheney's work. She does a supurb job of weaving real history with fantasy. She creates characters you want to get to know better. Glad she's still working in this universe some.

Another fun return to the Golden City. Still enjoying the world Cheney has created and the people inhabiting it.

A wonderful return visit to the Golden City
I love the Golden City series, and this novella is a perfect addition to the fantasy trilogy set in 1903 Portugal. It really feels like a condensed version of the full novels with mystery, danger, and a romance with delightful chemistry.
