Invincible Volume 10 (New Edition)

Oliver...
(Possible spoilers)So I was glad to read in the sketchbook section of this volume of Invincible that I am not the only one who dislikes Oliver. I imagine that he is being groomed to be a future "big bad". The kid is just annoying and his storyline is kind of drawing away from the central story theme of Invincible, which, to my eyes, has been that good and evil are all a matter of perspective. Oliver (or "Kid Omni-Man" yikes, that's some bottom of the barrel naming yet blunt foreshadowing of he continues on his current path) is just a small sneaky version of his father. I'm anxious to read the next volumes, but it'll have to wait...they aren't available on Comixology Unlimited yet, and my book fund is empty for the month.

The series is still going strong, but shifting its tone
"Invincible, v.10: Who's The Boss?"by Robert Kirkman & Ryan Ottley(Image Comics, 2009)---------------------------------------------------This is one of the most action-packed (and gory!) "Invincible" graphic novel collections to date, as Invincible gets his butt kicked by a giant serpentine subterranean rock monster, and his little brother joins him in his crime fighting patrols. Invincible also has a falling out with his governmental handlers, and begins to adjust to life as a rogue agent. The tone of the book has shifted noticeably from its lighthearted origins, away from a mostly kid-friendly storyline to a bloodier, more violent exploration of superhero mythos, closer in tone, perhaps to Rick Veitch's "Miracleman" (although thankfully, the goriness doesn't seem to be the whole point of the book, as it was with "Miracleman.") Still, although the book is still relatively accessible, it's no longer a title that I would think of recommending to younger readers... Unless page after page of splattered brains and intestines is your idea of wholesome entertainment. The writing's still quite good, and the title is consistently entertaining and engaging, but there sure seems to be a lot of gratuitous, graphic bloodiness going on these days. Invincible vol. 10 Yet another solid effort by RK!
I started buying Invincible TPB's in March 2006 @ Wizard World LA. I have been hooked ver since. You can never go wrong, and this latest volume is no exception. I love this series. The only drawback is having to wait between releases. You could go the monthly route, but there's nothing like reading six issues in a row!!

Invincible Book 10
Really, if you're already this far into the series, then you don't even need this review. It's a great comic, a great collection, a great writer, and a great artist. I highly recommend.

That was... an evolution
I find sometimes when writing my own stories that it turns on its head in a second. The book ceases being what it was and turns into something else. And that's okay. This one just did that to this whole series. In a very good way.
