Colma: The Musical [DVD]

Something For Everyone
The film is astounding in its ambition-- $15000 budget from a few people in a city of California most people have not heard of before. The musical writing is ingenious and inspirational. The storyline is interesting and entertaining. The performances are natural and convincing. Though it's very small and done by a director/producer team which appears relatively inexperienced, they have an ease with the delivery of the plot which makes them appear masterful. Another interesting facet is that it's got ups and downs-- brutal drama as well as happy social moments. This is pretty rare to pull of and a sign of maturity for their creative vision. Another unusual aspect is that it takes very ordinary daily life, nothing too special and this evolves into a complex feature film. One of the more talented representations of film making you'll probably find available. For them to pull this off for $15,000 is not just remarkable, it's uncanny. A treasure, rare find.

What a hoot
The music is INCREDIBLE, and I typically hate musicals!

A quirky Indie
Colma is a quirky independent film that I first came across in my film class this year. Although none of the stars can really sing (save for one), the songs are catchy and funny enough to get stuck in your head hours after you've finished watching it. I did think the story was really generic and that it kind of fell flat towards the end, but it was entertaining and gave a few laughs. Just remember to go in with an open mind!

Good indie film for the "local" audience.
Living in San Francisco, I understood from where this film was coming. Enjoyed the "in" jokes. The cast is very likeable and they are very real in their characterizations. One guy sings through his nose-sounds nasally, which was only a slight annoying. Production values were great for such a low budget indie film. The writer/director also had a main role, so combine all three and you have one very talented young man. But, as I mentioned, the concept is appealling to the SF Bay Area, but probably wouldn't have the same impact out of the region

Saw this 3 times in the theater and had to get the DVD
We saw "Colma The Muscial" 3 times in the theater -- it was that good! Loved the catchy tunes (still listen to the CD regularly) and moving story line. Anybody who is a Bay Area local will appreciate the inside jokes, but even if you aren't.. you will enjoy this if you like musicals and are looking for something just a little different. Get it!

Musical Mania
If you like 'Musicals'! if you like a 'Querky' sence of humor! and if you love the younger cross culture sound of music!!!.! You'll just love this 'Colma'-nation of coming of age, growing wiser, and growing apart; together. It's the ultimate in smalltown living near big cities, only fitting in in a halfassed sort of way. You'll enjoy following this threesome in a 'Menage Tios' into individual futures.!!!

Good fun on small budget
Having lived in Daly City, and attending Westmoor high for a year back in the day, I had to see this movie. I was cautiously optimistic and this film exceeded my expectations. I wish there was a PG-13 version of this however so I could allow my daughter to watch it. The film had many "small budget" moments but quite enjoyable over all.
