Great for .177 but a bit light for aggressive .22 rifle cleaning.
I am very pleased with this cleaning kit because it works well on both of my 177 and 22 caliber air rifles and 177 pistol. By the fact it fits a .177 barrel means the rod is thin. And it is a snug fit, not much play. Judging from the weight of one of the rod sections my guess is the rod is solid brass for strength. The copper wire brushes work well to remove lead buildup. The cleaning cloths are light weight lint free paper. After using the cloths, I realized if they were heavier they would be hard to insert into the .177 barrel, so light is good. On a Crosman .177 pellet/bb rifle I was amazed at how much lead came out of the barrel. The rifle was completely disassembled for a rebuild (38 years old) and after cleaning the barrel and inspecting the rifling, I saw a tiny burr sticking in the barrel where the rear sight mount screws were drilled and tapped. The cleaning rod would make a light click sound as it moved past the burr. I could not believe the burr was still there after thousands of BBC's and pellets passed by it. So using the rod with no end attachment, I made one wrap of 400 grit Emery cloth about 1/2 inch wide and taped to end of rod. It was a very tight fit, but was able to slide paper to burr and spin the paper to remove the burr. That is how tight a fit the rod is. Close inspection showed the burr gone and rifling intact. The cleaning kit also works as a detail kit. Lol.I'll use this on the .177 air guns and .22 air pistol. But for the .22 Remington rim fire semi auto, I'll stick to the heavier .22 kit I already have. The kit was worth every penny. Go easy on it and it gets the job done.

Gets the job done. Read what's included carefully if you're interested in more than just the rod!
This is a good quality kit, but be advised, the nature of the collapsible thin metal rod makes it easy to flex and possibly break. It's not that it's poor quality, quite the opposite. It's just that a collapsible rod that will fit in a .17 bore has to be thin by design. I've been careful with it and it's served me well so far. If you want one that won't break as easily, buy a one-piece rod. A couple other things to mention - the bronze .17 caliber bore brush is barely big enough to put a good scrub on the bore. It doesn't fit as tightly as I would like and I will be buying a better quality one soon. Also, either I did not read carefully enough what was included in this kit or it was not written well enough for me to understand - I purchased separately a 5/40 to 8/32 thread adapter thinking I'd need this to fit the .17 bore brush on the rod. The kit comes with an adapter for this as well as an adapter to fit the .22 accessories on the rod. As written, the kit does not come with a .17 patch loop so I bought one of these separately from Pro-Shot. Very happy with it. This kit does come with a loop for .22 and the same adapter for the .22 bore brush works for the loop in that caliber, too. The included cleaning cloth is good quality and I like it, quite the opposite with the included patches. They're garbage and after one attempted use I threw the whole box in the dustbin. Cheers!

Good kit for .17 HMR
If you are looking for a good kit for 17HMR this is it. It is labeled as universal but because of the small diameter of the rod needed to go through a .17 caliber barrel it is not a very strong rod for the larger calibers. Use it for cleaning only and do not try to reverse the direction of the brass brush while it is still in the barrel and the rod will be fine but if you try to use it as a battering ram it will break or bend.

Everything you need for a .22 or .17
I have a .17 rifle(varmint gun), ordered this for cleaning, everything I needed to be able to thoroughly clean my rifle.

Ok for price
Hopefully won’t break!! It’s pretty thin cause it has to be to fit in a 17 cal barrel so guessing will break easily but hopefully being careful I’ll be fine. Two complaints first the 17 caliber jag for patches is to thick and completely useless for 17hmr anyway. Second is the way they did the threads and adapters, it shouldn’t need an adapter for 17cal just 22 but mean it works just seems weird they’d do it that way.

It's OK, 4 stars for the price/contents and some info on threads for you
It is not bad for the price, a hard to find rod for .17 and brushes to boot. I was mainly after the rod for a .17 cal. , it gets 3 stars and an extra one for the brushes and holders.I was aggravated that the seller could not (accurately) answer the questions on The threads, so here is the scoop:The rod is held together with some really small threads, smaller than the 5/40, maybe 4/40 or 4/48. It comes with two adapters that are knurled for grip to convert the rod threads to the usual 5/40 or 8/32. Luckily, the adapters are the same threads as what is on the rod links, meaning that it can be used on any position (so it will work for cleaning your pistols. I don't really like the adapters too much because they seem abrasive, but it seems that most of the adapters I've come across are made this way.

Not impressed
I needed a new cleaning rod only. Kit uses way too many adapters (Why so many??) and everything is flimsy. Hoping the rod will last a couple of cleanings. Brass brush diameter is larger than my others. Too tight of a fit for the barrel. At least it was cheap.

Its better than the cotton pellets
It is what it is, a very thin rod for a very small hole. Its not a defect, nor is the spinning handle. The rod must turn with the rifling, to prevent damage to both rod and bore.

clean clean clean
never done this before and very happy with the way it turned out. i found a sponge worked best for me allowed application easier.also found that before i rinsed i lightly rubbed with 000 steel wool which seemed to blend better. happy bluing

Does the job...partially
Few mind boggling shortcomings : the handle spins freely, so how can one twist a cleaning pad assuming you can get one inside?Secondly, the end piece where you're supposed to attach the cleaning pad is .22 size , a bit important when you have a .177 caliber. Useless then...I had to buy cleaning pellets to do the job.

Save your money buy a better kit
I tried running the mop through my 17 and the threaded section broke off the cleaning rod in the first section which has the handle just not worth the money.
