Perfect-no complaints!
Arrived quick, box and packaging was a little damaged but packed well and no damage to the product. Set up was easy, lots of buttons on remote but not difficult. Plays my Wentworth discs no problem-changed the subtitles from Chinese to English-easy. A little pricy but glad I got it. A good purchase so far. I Would recommend.

Blu-Ray Region Changing Requires Open Disc Drawer
I bought one of these in 2017 and it continues to work well. I THOUGHT it was all-region for both Blu-ray and DVD. It was, and it worked fine for DVDs, but SEEMED to play only Region A on Blu-ray. Most American purchases are region A or all-region discs, but not all. After discarding some discs coded for other regions, I finally bought this all-region player in 2025. It turns out to be the same model (DBP-S1700) I already have, but this time the packaging included a slip of paper saying that to change Blu-ray regions, one leaves the disc drawer open and hits one of the colored buttons on the remote (Yellow, Blue, or Red for zones A, B, or C, respectively). The region cannot be changed when the drawer is closed. The zone changing works fine, but it is not obvious without the instruction. (Since this works with my old machine as well, I will, with some embarrassment, return this one.

Great compact multi-region player
Very slim, compact unit. Does everything it says it does. DVD playback is region-free (R0) meaning just insert any DVD from around the world and it plays automatically. Blu-Ray playback is multi-region meaning you need to manually set the region, but this is extremely simple to do, just the press of one button after powering on the unit. (My previous Seiki multi-region Blu-Ray Player required a 'secret code' to be entered to change zones, but thankfully not so with this Sony model - this is so much quicker to do.) Haven't noticed any problems with any DVD or Blu-Ray source as yet and I have a huge library of DVDs and Blu-Rays from around the globe. Great picture too. The unit seems solid enough for it's price range and, as it's a Sony, I'd expect it to last a while. If you want to connect it to the internet, you'll need to attach a cable, as this unit doesn't have Wi-Fi built-in (you'll have to upgrade to the next model up to get that). One last thing to note is that the only video output is HDMI, and the only sound output is also through HDMI or via co-ax. There are none of the 'ye olde fashioned standard A/V outputs' such as S-Video, component, composite or even plain old stereo jacks. So this will only work on displays and A/V receivers equipped with HDMI or co-ax. That's about the only down side I can see though and I'm sure there aren't that many customers who would care about that these days anyway. For the price, it's absolutely great.

ony All Region Free BluRay ABC & DVD Player, & 6 ft hdmi Cable fried within 20 mins. of installation
Caviat emptor. I'd bought the Sony All Region Free Blu Ray A B C and DVD Player, and 6 feet hdmi Cable (Bundle), in February of this year as a backup for my then-current all region LG bluray player. (I have a very large all region personal bluray library.) The LG bluray player had given up the ghost in early August, after 2 & 1/2 yrs of very heavy usage. I unboxed the Sony All Region Free Blu Ray A B C and DVD Player, and 6 feet hdmi Cable (Bundle), & set it up, & put on Region A Criterion bluray. It played okay for 20 minutes or so, but then started to strobe & flash a black screen. & then it stopped recognising any image altogether. I tried using the extra hdml cable i have but it did no good. i tried Region B, & Region C blurays. But nothing. Bupkis. I've turned it off, turned off the flatscreen, unplugged the Sony All Region Free Blu Ray A B C and DVD Player, and 6 feet hdmi Cable (Bundle) & turned the flatscreen back on & tried to play something, anything (blurays, dvds any region), but nothing. & I'm shocked & appalled at how quickly it it died. I am self employed & have been very busy with various deadlines, so trying to contact Sony has been a real headache. On top of which, in trying to right this I find that I cannot return it, since I had bought it in February of this year. So much for warranties. So much for being a reliable & honourable manufacturer.

Wow.
After 11 years, I had to buy a new TV and became very frustrated because, 1. I am old and had to figure out how to bypass the smart internet on it (I like things simple), and 2. My all region dvd player did not work with the new smart TVs. I tried a couple of adapters which were annoying, and when I finally decided to buy a new player, they were all so expensive, especially if you want it to play all regions. I chose this, and as soon as it was connected, it worked beautifully without even having to read directions. A frustrating experience has become a wonderful experience. Also, I only have regular DVDs and it plays them great.

Excellent little region modded Blu-ray player, tested with some American region A Criterion blu ray films and some Australian region B blu rays, worked with no issues. Instructions on how to easily switch between regions A, B and C come in the box. DVD's supposedly switch automatically between regions but I have not tested that yet as I purely needed this for region switching Blu Ray discs.
