John and Yoko and the making of Imagine, the iconic album
A perfect gift for any Beatles fan. A beautiful coffee table book telling the story of the making of John Lennon’s first post Beatles solo album ‘Imagine’. The book is full of previously unseen images and fascinating interviews with John and Yoko from their time at Tittenhurst Park where they had a recording studio built. Also includes the lyrics of each song on the iconic Imagine album. A stunning book covering the making of possibly the finest post Beatles solo album. A great gift for a true fan

A real heavyweight
To accompany the remixed version of John Lennon’s most famous and probably best loved album is a wonderful hardback book that gives an insight into the making of that record. With a plethora of photos liberally spread throughout its 320 pages, complimented by commentary from those involved, think of this as the ‘Imagine’ version of the Beatles’ gargantuan ‘Anthology’ book. George Harrison, Nicky Hopkins, Klaus Voorman, Jim Keltner, Ted Turner, Alan White and many others (not always musicians) give their thoughts on proceedings whilst those pictures add to things. There are also plenty of surprises amongst the images; not only are a vast number previously unseen, you also get a nosey view of the floorplan to Tittenhurst Park, and it’s not as big as you might think, and a map of the whole grounds. And like that ‘Anthology’ book, it’ll take you a while to get through it. Yes it’s certainly one for the die hard Lennon fan and the text for the book included in the six disc box set was taken from this. The only caveat is that many of the pages need to be ‘unstuck’, though this is a minor quibble, and when closed you can see blue edging with clouds.

I think that this book, like the plastic Ono one, is a really nice piece of a persons library if you’re into music and it’s a great coffee table book as well. It looks amazing and is very well put together. It’s a keepsake as much as anything. It’s a great album and there are a lot of great interviews that are included. The detail about Ascot is really interesting and something very new for me. So as a big John Lennon fan I really liked that there were some things in here that I had not seen before. I can’t say the same for the plastic Ono book — that has a lot of missing stuff. So even though I do not like this album as much as his first, I think that this book might be a little bit better than that one. If you just have the budget for one of the two, you might like this one more. That comes from somebody, me, who Very strongly prefers the plastic Ono album to imagine. The biggest downside is really just the price. I think that this book is worth around $30-$40 Canadian. If you pay more than that you might regret it a little bit more. That’s how I like to rate movies and things like that : by how much I’d spend on it.
