Create a show stopper!
This is an outstanding book: well written, instructive and truly inspirational. Seriously good chapters on the history of knitting, how to dye and the structure of stitches - even the difference in handling yarn with S or Z twist - make a good foundation to exploring some really innovative knitting. The patterns are a springboard into constructing original works of art (oh all right, garments) but I promise you, these are real show stoppers. Highly suitable for any knitter who wants to stretch and develop.

and I very much like the results
Alison Ellen has a simple but effective design methodology, and I very much like the results. Her finished items have good structure using interesting techniques. Her work has been recommended by my Knit Design tutor.

superb
Having just restarted knitting a year ago I bought this after having a look inside on Amazon. It certainly does'nt disapoint. Brimming with ideas asd swatches I don't know where to start already knitted 4 samples and am well pleased with them. Inspirational and if you are interested in creating fabrics you will not regret buying this book.

Creative knitting
Lovely creative patterns and lots of great ideas in this book, some are quite complicated and not for a beginner

Full of unusual knits
I found this book fairly easy to follow and it gave me lots of new ideas for making garments in many different ways.

Four Stars
The designs are excellent but the pattern writing is very confusing, just as well I am experienced.

Perhaps more for professionals than intermediate knitters?
I spent some voucher money on this book and I wish I hadn't. I was guided by the reviews of knitters whose skills must be much greater than mine. I can knit Aran pullovers and create lacy cardies for my granddaughters so I assumed that this book would present the odd challenge and a bit of inspiration especially since I have not tried entrelac techniques before.I discovered that although it gives some basic instructions the book is written for those already "in the know" and consequently there are too many short cuts for me to find such help useful. Although there are warnings that this could be the case- this book does seeks to inspire rather than to instruct- I found the basic outlines given on entrelac to be quite useless. I sought both video instruction and my trusty DK knitting book when this instruction failed, mainly because an unhelpful, overly basic diagram of what a line of base triangles should look like, take it from me that they do not look like the this. If you are new to entrelac you will have to seek other help. Please don't give up though because it is do-able!!One solace could have been the use of colour in the photography, which was very monochromatic and monotonous which was a pity. The garments do seem inspirational! I suspect that to the properly initiated this book does fulfill its purpose but if you are a bog standard intermediate knitter who likes to be given a few pointers on how colour and stitches in given circumstancesI would think twice before spending your money on this.

Visually stimulating
Nothing better to stimulate the designing process with structural ideas that you would not have found yourself. The charts are clear and there are also drawings of needle and stitch position for better understanding. Well worth the detour.

Excellent technical reference
I started knooking (knitting with a crochet hook with a cord) last year and have been trying to find references on knit stitch construction that imparts technical knowledge usually lacking in almost all knitting books and patterns. This book delivers this information. Things I found most helpful:*stitch construction explained with text, pictures and standardized diagrams*how various stitch combinations work together to create various fabric types with interesting examples*detailed explanation on the directional joining processes in modular knitting -the pictures clear up confusion on where to pick up stitches on previous modules*clear text and illustrations on joining techniques*technical information on yarns and how yarn construction can affect your knitting*a great overview on the use of color with helpful examples*a final bonus of some interesting mostly modular projects using techniques outlined in the bookIf you are looking to understand knitting on a technical level and gain insight on knitting design then this is the book for you.
