Don’t read bad reviews!
If you have most of your brain, your Scruff-a-Luv can turn out adorable and you can have a great time with your kids! Try watching the product video that Amazon has posted. Then try following the directions. Do NOT put this in the washer and then dry it on high heat and expect to have a beautiful stuffed animal magically appear. Do NOT hand this to a 2 year old while you play on your phone and then complain when it doesn’t come out looking like a million bucks. We got the exact same product, and ours is perfect! We gently soaked and swirled it in a tub of warm water with baby shampoo. Don’t wring the crap out of it. Be gentle. Give it a good five minutes in the sudsy water. Add a little conditioner toward the end of this. Then gently re-roll it back in a ball shape while squeezing gently to get some water out. Dump your dirty water and get some clean warm water, and rinse the animal. Gently roll and squeeze again. Place it on a thick towel and gently roll from the feet up in the towel like the ball it came in again, squeezing some more water out. Get your hair dryer on low heat, and brush while you dry. Let your child use the brush that came with it, while you use a hairbrush or a wire dog brush. Give her a little shake once in a while, like a dog would do after a bath. Water will come out. Keep drying, and brushing, going in the direction the hair comes out of the toy, which varies all over the animal. Make sure you find where the ears connect, and the legs and arms, and brush from the feet toward the body too. Brush and dry the white belly extra as it takes longer to dry. When you’re done, you will have a darling lovey your child will adore! I’ve attached some pictures from our experience.

It's cute
This is definitely cute, if you don't want this to be a hands-on project AKA "Mom I need help" constantly then I would recommend it for older kids who have a little more patience and who will follow and understand the directions better, I did not mind doing this together with my toddler daughter. It does take a little time, definitely use shampoo AND conditioner, I did this like others mentioned and it made it really soft, also definitely get a little wire dog/cat brush and use while blow drying, it helps fluff the fur out better and gives it that soft stuffed animal feel. That was the only extras I needed, my daughter loves it, the dog was fluffier before the picture but being hugged and dragged around all day it was a little rough looking! All in all I would buy again!

Be prepared for it to look nothing like the after picture
Really cute, but be prepared for lower expectations. It's almost comical really lol This thing looks like an old beat up, well loved stuffy. Yet, my daughter who just turned 5 a couple days ago loves this little pet. However, it will look nothing like the picture once its 'clean' or 'washed'! Lol Obviously as an adult I noticed this, but my daughter did not and could care less. I suppose that will depend a lot on the child or age. Maybe we are not brushing it enough? I do think it's priced well and is fun for the child to 'clean '. She loved that part and it is exciting to see who which animal you get. My daughter wanted the blue cat which I thought I had ordered but we received the blue bunny. She was disappointed, but still happy. It's really cute despite looking nothing like the picture and for the price it's fine. Still 4 stars since it is priced ok and is pretty fun. Just be prepared to laugh lol I included a picture next to a 'live pet' to see how big it is

Fun toy, if you ignore some flaws.
I'm giving this five stars because my daughter has had so much fun with it and loves her new little puppy. That being said, I feel like this toy is way overpriced for what it is. It's an awesome concept and we all had fun bathing it, revealing which animal my daughter got, combing the animal's hair, and putting on the accessories. But after it's washed, dried, and groomed, it somewhat resembles a Dollar Tree stuffed animal. Because this toy comes as a matted ball of fur that has been balled up for who knows how long, in the end, it is disfigured and misshapen. Limbs are helplessly twisted, the head is lopsided, the face is squished flat, and stuffing inside is all bunched. And there's not a lot you can do to fix it. In addition to all of this, my daughter's puppy has a head that is way too big for its body. It's supposed to sit up, but that's nearly impossible with how top heavy it is.

Daughter LOVES but not very cute
I gave it 3 stars because my daughter LOVED this present. She was thrilled to get it....its what she asked for. She had fun washing it. I had to dry it in a pillowcase in the dryer because air drying wasn't working ...after many hours...it was still soaked. I only gave it 3 stars because it's pretty ugly toy after it's washed . It doesn't look as cute as the picture for sure. But she loves it and sleeps with it so it was worth it. I bought it for $6.50 on sale black friday week. Worth that amount.

Cute pain in the butt!
What animal is it?! Well you will find out! We were surprised with the little cutie and my daughter just loved the sparkly ears. Let me tell you, this thing seems to take forever to dry. As real dogs shake after a bath to get off excess water, so should you (violently) shake this little one. After we squeezed out all the water (which kind of upset my daughter as you don’t treat real animals this way) I blow dried for a good 5 minutes on high, and it was still wet. I was able to then squeeze out more water (are we done yettt?!???) -_- After watching a couple YouTube videos on this product, I shook it out and then blow dried for another 5 minutes. Once fully dry I gave back to my daughter to brush out. The brush sucks. Period. A Wet Brush style brush did the trick. Super cute concept. Pain in the tuchus. I’m begging my daughter to never wash it again

Really good way of keeping the girls quiet for the day! These aren’t our first Scruffs and won’t be our last, one little un intent on rescuing the lot! Ours have come out best when bathed for a while.

The concept and toy are very cute. It is a little expensive for what eventually ends up being just a stuffed animal, but my little sister really enjoyed the process of cleaning it all up and brushing it. She loved the animal and the whole transformation, and I was happy to have a toy that had a bit of a learning opportunity built in. A little bit of adult help was needed to brush some of the more stubborn tangles out, and it still looked a little scruffy at the end, but the process of getting the toy cleaned and ready was what was really worthwhile. If you are buying it for the activity of caring for the animal (rather than just to get a stuffy) I would definitely recommend this cute toy!

The price is high, but it worth because children love it. I bought this for my niece, and it became her inseparable friend.

It’s a very cute idea and my niece loves it! Except that it’s very difficult to take all the grim from it it’s the job of a washing machine which you don’t want to do with the kids
