awesome movie
So not like all the other movies about people doing dirty business in mexico and being eaten alive. This one was unique and David Oyelowo outshines the rest of the stars in the cast. Superb story telling.

5 stars? Yeah
For those who gave this movie a 1, stick with Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music, etc. because you clearly don't like modern film making. Was this a perfect movie? No, but by today's standards of continuously pumping out mindless drivel, this movie is way better than the average movie and I agree it did not get the credit it deserved. It is entertainment so I get that some things have to happen because of where the writer wants the story to go, but Richard's brother, as an experienced operator, would never have allowed himself to be hit by a car. Heck, has anyone been standing on the street at night and not noticed a car approaching them? No. Plus, he would have been severely injured if not killed by that incident rather than later by getting shot. And again, he would not have put himself in a position to get shot by someone lying on the ground and in fact based on where he was standing and where the bad guy was, he would have seen him moving long before getting shot. But I get for the sake of expedience certain things needed to happen for the story to get to where it eventually went, I just think there were better ways to get there and killing off one of the more notable characters in the movie was a mistake. The creators, in fact, may have been able to make a franchise out of that character. I mean a cold blooded assassin with a need for redemption that leads him to spend his money traveling the world to help those in need? That is pure gold. How Elaine got out of any prison time makes no sense. I mean testifying against a "co-conspirator" is not a get out of jail free card. The DEA man could not have just let the "gringo" walk away no matter if he wanted to or not. Could not explain that away. And he would have known the seedy motel brothers were hiding the gringo and could have made him disappear much earlier because at this point he already knows who is involved in the shenanigans and moved a case against them. But still, this is one of the better movies I have seen in the last year and so yeah, I am giving it 5 stars relative to most of the crap out there.

Harold works for 2 idiots and decides to turn the tables on them
Gringo is a comedy based around David Oyelowo as Harold Soyinka. He’s a very loyal worker at Promethium Pharmaceuticals. His bosses Richard (Joel Edgerton) and Elaine (Charlize Theron) are not only jerks, but they’re dumb as well. It turns out they were supplying drugs to a Mexican cartel while trying to sell the company which would include firing most of their workers including Harold. The story is about how Harold deals with his two idiot bosses. The movie focused upon personalities like Richard and Elaine and used them for the comedy as well. When they travel to Mexico for example Elaine sees a manager of a factory they work with, the pictures of all his kids on the wall and then asks if they sold birth control there or not. Them being jerks is used to great effect.Oyelowo does a great job as first the innocent and then the schemer, especially because he’s not very good at it. Special shout out goes out to Sharito Copely who plays Mitch a man whose sent to Mexico to retrieve Harold. I always love seeing him in the movies. The story also goes through a number of twists and turns to keep it interesting.C

When the ones YOU love don't love YOU back.
Harold works as a middle man for Promethim drugs as a middle man, who loves his job, his wife, and best friend, the head of the company, Richard. Richard...not so much. Making a deal with the Cartel, Richard, Harold & the other beast, Elaine, go to Mexico to do business, when Harold learn just how much Richard loves him and his job and his wife. Harold then come up with an idea for payback. Make pretend he got kidnapped by the cartel and extort 5 million. Let's just say that all plans don't go the way that it's written in order on paper. In another storyline, Miles is running drugs for the cartel and need to go to Mexico to pick up enough to make 20,000, and takes girlfriend Sunny with him. That was the plan....and remember what I said before about plans.David Oyelowo's Harold is so right on point! Clearly, the best character in the flick! A good man living his life by his father's instilled morals facing left and right dangers, while trying to hold on to whatever is left of his moral core. Charlize Theron's Elaine.....A HOT MESS!!! Her mouth could give sailors on leave a run OFF the docks! All in all, this was a FUN movie! It had intrigued me for the longest. Now I took the chance and I dug it! It ain't the BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR, but it is the best at this particular time, and if you get the chance, try it on for size. I'll bet it will be a perfect fit.
