I ordered this hoping it would be the answer to my needs. I solo hike most of the time. My wife worries about me as do my children. This has worked out perfectly for all of us. I send them a notification when I start my hiking for the day and also when I'm done for the day and setting up camp. They can follow me on my MapShare site and know exactly where I am. I can send text messages if needed, check the weather forecast and in a worst case scenario, I can send an SOS so Search and Rescue kno s I'm in need of assistance and can respond. This is a great product and I highly recommend you get one.

Works great! Small, light and easy to throw in a pack

I have only used it once so far on a backpacking trip in the Smoky Mountains. There is a learning curve, but not too long. But I am not sure about it's use in the East. All trails are tree covered and it was difficult to get a signal to send check-in messages. Maybe it was the user?

To use this nearly 400 dollar unit you have to subscribe to an over $30.00 subscription that is not obviously mentioned in the description. Very misleading, really pissed me off.
