Q: Bought these 5 yrs ago & 2 of the blades just broke from plastic handles while buttering bread with soft butter! Anyone else had this happen?

Yes, I have had this happen three or four times and had a set replaced. If you look closely at the break dark metal can be seen which to me shows metal fatigue. Raise a case with the manufacturer, they are supposed to carry a life time warranty. Hope this helps.

Q: Can these go in the dishwasher?

Doesn’t seem to have affected ours in any way. Not instructed not to put them into a dishwasher.
