Nice quality kicking chains-set of two for the fetlocks.
These Kicking Chains met my expectations. They are a good product for the money and the synthetic fleece protects my horse's sensitive skin and lets the area breath to prevent rashes or sore areas. I had to replace one of the chains with a chain I had cut at the hardware store as she stepped on it and broke the chain. I went up one size in chain to a little heavier product. It was easily reattached with a metal loop that the store sold me for a dollar and they fastened the loop to the chain for me. All in all they are a good product. She wore them for about 30 days and seems to have done the trick. I will introduce them again to her as needed.

Works Pretty Well
The chain needs to be about a foot longer. Love the fleece so doesn’t chafe however if you have goat heads or any sticker type weeds they get hung up in the fleece so you have to check the strap regularly to avoid irritating your horses pasterns.

They work, just give it time.
The chains do break, but that’s good. I say that’s good, because obviously she stepped on them while getting up from laying down. I reattached the chains using double baling twine. Also, place them above the pastern so they have less of a chance to break off. Overall, they do work and have not caused my mare harm. She has decreased her kicking and they will remain on until she stops.

Great concept for Horses that don’t find joy in challenges…
These had great reviews, are made well and look nice. However, if you have a chestnut mare who’s too smart for her own good, they’ll be removed in less than 24 hours. Not even gonna try again. Bummed cause I saw how effective they were.

So far SO good
The media could not be loaded. My mare has strong opinions…. about her personal space in a trailer, about how close (or how far away) a herd member needs to be in there pasture, & about being the last one to get turned out.…she HATES being “last behind”. Her opinions often present themselves in a temper tantrum! This athlete can kick! She doesn’t care how small the space & recently kicked so badly on a trailering adventure that she bent the bars that close the ramp (as well as straight out breaking the metal latch that secures those bars)….. put the kick chains on and kept her in the barn while the herd was turned out. She often kicks so high that her hooves come higher than the wood section of her stall walls! You can see some of the damage her hooves have done to the walls in the photo. What a difference with the chains!! They were not super tight & have a soft comfortable liner (obviously did not leave them on…I removed them & turned her out several minutes later). Next, we’ll try a trailer ride & cross our fingers that it works as effectively in that setting as it did in the barn. Worth a try if you’ve got a kicker!!

Effective at teaching not to kick
Very effective at stopping kicking. I've had to use them less and less. Originally I had clipped the chains together as that is what my friend did with her stallion. I found that much less effective than having the chains separate. When the chains are separate as they are when purchased the chain will touch the horse's leg during the kick and discourage him from repeating the movement. It didn't take very long for my stallion to figure it out. I have only used it in his stall when I take one of the mares out in the cross ties or to ride as that's when he kicks- he likes to see his girls all the time (but that's just not reality). Now I rarely put them on, only for very exciting days.

Not for hocks
These were described by a separate seller/vendor on line for use "over the hock or around the pastern". They do not fit over a hock & as desperate as I was to end the rail kicking, I modified them to fit together & added holes so it would fit perfectly over her rear hock. No matter what I did it came off or she pulled it off in minutes, not effective. These do fit around the pastern so I imagine they may work inside a stall, I don't see these as being safe on a hind pastern to end kicking in a turn out, especially on a very athletic horse.

One day and the kicking problem has improved
The problem was that two mares in side by side stalls began kicking the walls and fences of the runs especially at feeding times. Aside from damage to the fencing and the walls, one of the horses twice suffered injuries from the fencing that required stitches. The kicking had to stop. We tried matting the fencing but they still kicked. I put one chain on each horse on the leg they primarily kicked with. Immediately the kicking lessened. I am buying a second set of chains just in case they use the other foot too.
