From the reviews I was unsure if the Movo X1-Mini Video Shotgun Mic would work with an iPhone USB-C connector. The answer is yes it does work with an iPhone 15 Pro Max and I'll wager that it will work with most USB-C devices that offer a record and play back facility. It will also work with DSLR and mirrorless cameras as it's supplied with both 3.5mm TRS, TRRS and USB-C leads. What makes this mic special is it has both analogue and digital outputs. When using the microphone with your iPhone you can't monitor the audio unless you plug in headphones to 3.5mm TRS jack socket on the rear. With the headphones plugged in you'll get clear audio and if you hold the mic at eye level you'll understand the super cardioid polar pattern of the mic which picks up sound primarily from in front with a narrow angle akin to a telephoto lens with a little behind where it will pick up your breathing. In my experience over many years of location audio recording the best sound recording are made with the microphone off camera so that the noise of handling the camera, breathing etc are reduced to (hopefully) nothing. The frequency response could be better but for most applications the range of 20Hz - 20kHz is sufficient. Others have commented that the mic is tricky to snap into the supplied Rycote Lyre shock mount - once it's mounted there's no point in removing the mic from the red shock mount. The build quality and aluminium body are better quality than expected. It's compact at ø20.4mm and 119mm long or roughly ø¾" and 4" long. I've not compared this to Rode or Senheisser products but suspect it would be of better value. The case supplied is durable and bulky as it has a cut foam insert. I've removed the kit from the case and store it in a Tenba Cable Pouch 4 with a clear front. I've also included a pair wired ear buds for audio monitoring and playback. A closing note - with my iPhone 15 Pro Max audio can be monitored through ear phones plugged into the back of the mic when connected by USB-C, you'll not be able to monitor sound through the phone speakers with the USB-C plugged in.

You need to be close to it for it to hear you but it’s a decent microphone. Because it’s heavily directional it helps if you have noisy surroundings .

Ive been using this for a while with a smart phone. It picks up sound very well. Also good with a dslr camera. It comes in a nice case too. Excellent value for money.

Decent microphone but I recommend not getting it for a canon 1200D (the one I use) because the headphone jack does not support the wire before buying get an adapter for the mic the wire is a usb mini by type c best purchase tho

easy to set up and use , first use was on a very windy day and the mic performed very well with only the occasional bit of wind noise noticeable and no echoes or unrealistic sounds .

This microphone comes well packed in its own case which includes cables, a foam pop guard and a furry windscreen muff. Unfortunately, despite the use of different cables and recording equipment, every recording I’ve made with this microphone always contains crackles. The wind muff does reduce sounds created by the wind but the difference is so negligible that it’s hardly worth fitting! I did have high hopes for this microphone but my experience has been really poor.
