No hastles. Period. ;)
After years and years of sanitary towels giving me various problems like rashes that would then last longer than my monthly cycle, I looked for an alternative. I initially looked for a towel that was allergy free, and came across an item called the Moon cup. After reading nothing but positive reviews I decided ''Why not?'' and then just before clicking the buy it now button, I had another search for similar items and found that the Diva Cup had better reviews so decided to give it a try. After all, spending almost the same amount of money on what was giving me problems and making my cycle a misery, what had I to lose if it didn't work? It arrived very quickly, thankfully just days later, I could try it out. I was a bit apprehensive at first, as being in my 40s', I had never even tried a tampon, so I was a novice as to more intimate devices. Well, it was easy to go in, the instructions are so simple to follow. Just fold the cup into a triangular shape with your thumb and forefinger, and insert it in, then leave it to get on with the job in hand. You can leave it for up to 12 hours, but being curious, I checked back several times, and each time I was amazed at the results, no leaking, it didn't hurt, I never even knew it was there, but most of all NO RASH. You just need to be comfortable with the fact that you are now dealing with your own bodily fluids, but in all honesty, I never once got any of my own 'mess' on me, the cup done all the work. Just wash it out with non perfumed soap ( I used sanex) and insert it back in. After my cycle finished i put a small piece of sterilising tablet into boiled water, and left it in it for a couple of hours. Rinsed in more boiled water, and it's ready for next time. I am going to order another one, they are meant to last years, and I trust they do, but 'just incase' as I will never go back to towels again. I have tried to convince my Daughter who is in her 20's, but as of yet she is cringing at the thought of having to be so up close and personal with her 'bits'. I have a c-sections, so mailed the company to find out what size suited me, and was told size 2. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Diva Cup to every woman out there. Tell your friends, colleagues, and strangers on the street as word needs to get out there that there can be freedom from the monthly curse.

Love my cup, replaced it today and nearly cried with delight
I had to stop using my cup on doctors advice when I had a coil put in a year ago. Due to non-stop bleeding I’ve had to have it taken out and can now go back to using it. I have tolerated tampons and pads but really dislike them so finding this as a solution is amazing. Personally, I have found it very easy to use, inserting and removing it is perfectly fine but I have no problems learning and knowing my body and it can’t go anywhere so as long as you’re not stressing yourself out and you can hook a finger around the rim to break the seal your okay to go. I’d suggest though that if you have a high cervix to try different brands as some have valves or thinner silicone so that releasing the seal is easier. I only suggest that because unless you have longer fingers you may have to reach a little further and it can be uncomfortable for some. Benefits of using a cup with a lighter or medium flow is that if you can manage 8-12 hours without emptying it, just emptying it in the shower at bedtime and in the morning means no additional messyness. You can freshen up at the same time and because you’re reinserting it straight away towel drying after your shower means you don’t have to either swap to dark towels or have wash them every day for smears. I have used cups for years previously. No dryness or tugging or mess and my periods reduce by between 2 to 3 days due to the negative pressure. I have nearly no pain whatsoever and my first few days achy pressure is pretty much non existent when I use the cup. Again, I think my body just likes the negative pressure and responds positively. £30 for one cup that has previously lasted me 6 years before I stopped using it is pretty good going so I’ve bought the same one again now. Next is to stop using disposable liners on these days and swap to period pants. I will be scouring the internet for some good bargains. Bottom line is I feel so much better with my cup in now, I can’t feel it AT ALL and I feel so much more in control of my monthly’s.

... my review will help some of the women who like me, are very interested in the ecological
Hopefully my review will help some of the women who like me, are very interested in the ecological, cost saving and natural alternative to tampons but who ask themselves ‘how the hell does that thing gets in and out, feels inside, is it hygienic, how disgusting is it?’. Firstly, it’s not like the product is extremely expensive to start with so the worst thing that can happen is that you try it and it’s not for you and you waste £20. Worth trying in my opinion because if it works for you, you’ll save money, you’ll save the planet, and you’ll forget you are on your period! When I received the product, I thought it was way too big to get in and that I would never manage to insert it. So… it is hard at first but I found a solution that works for me. Does not mean it works for others…. I fold it according to instructions, and insert it when I’m in the shower in the morning. That way, it’s not ‘too dry ‘ to get in, and no mess. So far, had not had leakages and when it is properly in place I cannot feel it. I felt it was uncomfortable once and had to move it a bit and then it was fine. The removal was the other fun side of it. I really struggled at first as I could not figure out how to pull it out. I now have my own way as well which works for me. I leave it in for the whole day and when I get home or 12 hours later, I have a shower and that’s when I remove it. I can then wash it with disinfectant soap while in there. Again, no mess and if any I just rinse. When you remove it, it looks like you would imagine so I won’t describe that pretty picture! In terms of hygiene, I use special disinfectant soap to wash it and put it one boiling water to kill all germs regularly. Pros – Once in, I can’t feel it, I can keep it in for the whole day, no tampons to be changed every 4 hours, no string hanging, can go to the beach with no fear of string exposure and most importantly, can go swimming!!!. It’s economical, and natural. Cons – Hard to put in place and hard to remove, can’t be done anywhere (need to wash and empty the cup prior and after using). Might carry germs. Overall I would definitely recommend the product because my period is no longer an inconvenience for me.

Was a first time user, wish I would of bought one years ago!
Been debating on getting this for a year now, but something always deterred me. I bought it eventually, read the instructions and sterilized it as instructed. Waited for my period to start and I dreaded to put it in. As I read the instructions, I felt pretty confident and plucked up the courage to do it. Glad I did. 1) Easy to insert, please read instructions before trying it, thats where most women go wrong. I also practiced the technique in with my hands (how to insert not actually doing it) before I sterilized. It did not hurt. Also if it leaks its not the product, you need to make sure that when it’s in you turn the bottom of the base (not the stick) to make sure its round shaped, that means its suctioned in properly. If its still like an oval turn it round slowly until it reaches circular shape. 2) Comfort. I was expecting it to be somewhat uncomfortable, nope, It doesn’t fee like you have anything inside at all. It feels wayyyy better than a tampon. Its like its not there. I slept in it, cleaned in it, and went shopping with it in. All good, felt invisible. 3) Changing. Changing was quite messy, you need to get it out, empty it in the toilet, and wash it under the tap, then re insert. Takes about 3-5 minutes. I don’t use soap on mine because I’m very sensitive down there so I just thoroughly wash it under the tap until spotless clean. I empty my cup every 4-5 hours in the day, but leave the cup in overnight without changing it during the night, the cup is very full when I wake up and if it has overflown it’s literally 1cm of blood. I sleep roughly 10 hours. After period is finished I sterlize, put it in the bag it comes with, ready for next time- however I still re sterilize just before I insert again just in case theres and germs in the bag etc. I personally don't sterilize during period, just wash very good and thoroughly under hot water. I have had 2 children via vaginal birth and 2 c sections. My oldest who I had given birth to are 17 and 16 years old. My periods are heavy. I got a size 2. Wish I had bought this years ago. No more spending money on pads and tampons and no irritations off it either which is a bonus. Pads made me itch and tampons leaked all the time after an hour of putting them in. I feel more relaxed with the menstral cup and definitely recommend. 10/10

Great cup but not for me.
I bought this cup as it seemed to be the most visible in terms of stockists and advertisement and had some good reviews. I wish I had visited the ‘put a cup in it’ website first as I don’t think this is my ‘cinderella cup’. Having had a c section and a normal delivery, and being over 30 I definitely fall into the category of needing the larger cup, however because the diva cup is a very stiff silicone material it is very unforgiving fit wise, so being someone with a high cervix and no residual stress incontinence this cup may be a bit too big, evidenced by the fact that often I can feel the cup when it’s inserted. I’ve used it for two months and felt I was getting the hang of it using the punch down fold to insert, but even now on month 3 there have been occasional issues with discomfort. Having said that when I can finagle it into a comfortable position it does not leak. As for only changing 12 hourly, maybe if you are a light flow or for the rest of us on day 3-4 that may be possible, but for medium heavy flow I would say it has to be changed 8 hourly, and overnight there were some leakage issues. This is a good cup, and for lots of women it will be their perfect fit, but not for me. Also it’s really expensive compared to a lot of other options.

You have to persevere but stick with it...
Right, so I thought id write a review on this cup because id spent hours researching all the different cups and found other reviews really helpful. At first I thought this massive cup is never gonna fit in my tight little nunny, and I’m not gonna lie, I did do a “dry” run (with lube). I felt like I was having a smear test, it was awful, moreover getting the little sucker out was harder than a negotiation on Brexit, but after a good 5 minutes of perseverance I managed to get it out. There is a knack to it. It takes time but once you know how its easy. However, I was determined to make this work. I got on fine with tampons but after being on holiday and being caught short a friend recommend using a menstrual cup. Stick it in when you think you’re due on, and forget about it for 12 hours. So I tried it again once I was actually on my period and it was easier to insert. The trick, I found is (using the “punch-down” fold) to put it in half way and then give it one full twist whilst slowly inserting it. It should then open. I then nudged it further up slightly so the nubby end couldn’t be felt. So far so good… 1st night overnight is when I’m usually heaviest, but I was surprised at how little there was in the cup and…NO leaks!! Another top tip is that this is not user friendly if you have ghetto nails! You know the ones, long pointy Rhianna type nails. I love those nails but if you’re tighter than a tramp at a bar, you’re not gonna get very far and trust me you’ll thank me for the tip. You have to get down and dirrrty using a cup but it is worth it. The last tip for getting it out is to watch youtube videos. There are some really good ones out there (Precious Star Pads to name one). They tend to focus on squeezing the base of the cup once you’ve pulled down on the tip, tilt it backwards then empty in the toilet. No mess at all. I tried the Athena cup but I could not get the thing to open for love nor money. This was my second cup and I’ll be sticking with it. The reviews are great and it’s a well known branded cup. I’m never going back!

Like getting your first pair of GHDs!!!
I have been a menstrual cup user for about a year. Before I used this I had a Mooncup and I was very happy with it... until I was cleaning it in a pan of boiling water and forgot all about it only to return to a pan boiled dry and a brown and burnt Mooncup! my only complaint with the Mooncup itself was that i sometimes had a little leakage and I found that it sometimes moved about inside me - often going very far inside me which could make it quite tricky to retrieve (as I removed the little stem for comfort) Since trying this Diva Cup I am amazed at the fit and how it stays put. I went out dancing last night and the thing didn't budge. Often when I used to remove the Mooncup there would be blood on the underside where it had crept around or the Mooncup itself had moved about but not with this Diva Cup. The Diva Cup is longer and thinner than the Mooncup and I think this is what makes it suit me - I have had a child so I have always gone for size 2 but sometimes the Mooncup felt a little cramped in my, ahem, slightly more narrow vagina and I think this might be the reason for some of the leakage I had as it didn't always pop open very easily and i think it may have sometimes squeezed up a bit breaking the seal between the wall of my vagina and the cup itself. This one fits like a glove. The last thing that I would say is wonderful about the Diva Cup is that the overall design is more streamlined leaving fewer place for that thicker menstrual blood (you know at the end of your period) to get stuck and as a result, cleaning it has been a dream. Overall, for me, I would say that getting this diva cup has given me the same feeling as when I got my first pair of GHDs. The straighteners I have before were good... until I got my hands on a pair of GHDs. If you are unsure about menstrual cups give them a go- they are absolutely brilliant. It's great to actually see what comes out of you, you get to know your body, I feel so much cleaner now there is not blood stuck up inside me on a cotton tampon or in my knickers in a big pad. I have also found that my periods are much shorter - this may be coincidence but maybe not.

Money worth spent!! If you have any doubts about this item. BUY!
Ladies when i tell you, you will NEVER want to return to tampons or sanitary products. Trust me you won’t. I was one of those ladies that was dithering for years over this product. There was me thinking “ is no way this could do what it claims do do without being unhygienic and messy”. Boy oh boy was I wrong. I had a date planned last ngt and I wanted to wear a white dress out to tapas. My frikin totm started 3 days early. Typcial. So i panicked. I went onto amazon and tried to google ways that i could still wear that dress without underwear and not embarrass my ass. I stumbled across the diva cup. Within 4 hrs it was delivered. I washed it with warm kettle boiled water and folded it in half and popped it in. Went in just like a tampon. The whole evening, i was able to wear a white dress, knickerless and didn’t even remember it was the first day of my period. We all know the first two days are the heaviest for us women. This item makes you blooming forget you are even on. Not a single leak, No damp feeling. Nada. At the end of the night, I washed it, popped it back in and went to bed. Slept comfortably the whole night without the need to bolt up in bed to rush to the bathroom for an accident. I tend to remove it when its shower time and reinsert whilst still in the shower with ease. I cannot recommend this item enough!!! Yes its £25 but its a game changer Stats, 40 yr old woman 2 children 5-6 day period 3 days heavy flow, 3 days light flow Ordered the 30+Diva cup and it worked perfect. Ps: I found that it was better to warm it under the hot tap to soften, fold it in half to make it half the size before inserting.
