The claim is that this extends the life of the carbon filter over those not pre-filtered. Time will tell whether the claim is true, but the concept seems viable. The product is modestly priced, and seems to do the job; I have cleaned a brown film off the ceramic filter after a few weeks of use. Lab testing would be welcomed to confirm the filtering effectiveness. Compatible with several water filter systems.
