Why is this cheaper than the other brands, such as Tomlyn and Vetoquinol/Viralys?

It is simply pure l-lysine and nothing else :) Some brands add flavoring to their l-lysine, but we have found that cats can be picky eaters with added flavors. How fine is the powder? Is it very fine or granular?

The first container I bought was a fine powder that melted into their food. The next tub (3 months later) was more granular: it clumps when I sprinkle into their food. I started adding a "Broths" packet to try to mix it in better. I was considering grinding it, but the texture makes me think it won't really soften into the very fine powder of the last tub.

Is this intended for use long term or short term use?

Long term as in a daily supplement. Good as a life-long part of keeping your cat healthy and to have a better immune system
