Review: ' Supermarketwala' is a fabulous business read. It is a very well written book - divided into easy chapters with well defined topics. The book discusses the various ways the retail industry evolved giving the readers a detailed insight into the thoughts of the decision makers followed by the authors thoughts and comments on possibilities to make meaningful changes in the ever evolving retail landscape. It is a must read for all the players involved in the industry be it the manufacturers, the shop owners, the store decision makers and the students. To give a little push to the reader's brain, the book includes an innovative section at the end of each chapter - 'mind pokes'. The author, keeping with the present social media day and age, has kept discussions, comments open via Twitter, Facebook and other platforms. Overall an excellent and thought provoking book. Review: This book is a gold mine of insights about the Indian marketplace. India is one of the most complex cultures in the world shaped by our history going back centuries. This has direct bearing in the Indian marketplace and on consumer preferences. Tune in correctly and you can make a fortune, and you can lose your shirt just as easily if you are not aware of the nuances of the bazaar as many MNCs discovered. The author is a product of Hindustan Lever which is famous throughout Corporate India for it’s marketing acumen and I can relate to many of the astute observations made by the author. However I did notice one very incorrect myth stated by the author-he says that McDonald’s Hamburgers taste the same all over the world. This aren’t true. The hamburgers sold in Australian and New Zealand McDonalds is very different in smell and taste to the ones sold in India. Different cooking oils are used and even the chicken cutlet, cheese and bread roll is different. But on the whole a fabulous read.

Great book. Very insightful. learned a lot. Especially enjoyed reading the chapter on 'Shopkeeper In-Law'. Wondering why the author chose not to continue with Avenue Supermarts and build on the Indian Walmart chain.
