Useful if you have The Disease To Please
This is a good book if, like me, people pleasing is in your make-up. I was recommended this by a counsellor.I didn't find it necessary to read the whole thing; there is a quiz near the beginning which points you towards the most relevant sections for you. I found this really helpful, and the book chimes with other work I've been doing with transactional analysis etc.Overall very much worthwhile. It didn't get 5 stars because here and there I found it a little heavy going. It is also interesting that the author assumes early on that most of her readers will be female. I'm not challenging this at all but it's interesting what it says about our society. Anyway, some of us blokes are prone to people-pleasing too, and the book is just as useful for us. (Probably does us no harm to have the boot on the other foot, given how patriarchal our society still is, but I digress.)

Good Buy
Got this book for a book group proposed by some co-workers. We are all enjoying this book in the fact that it is challenging us to overcome our people-pleasing tendencies. Has brought about great conversation and some of our group members have already made some big breakthroughs in how they deal with personal relationships. My one SLIGHTLY negative comment is that I'm not a fan of the author "self-promoting" throughout.Overall, a good buy for someone who believes they have people-pleasing tendencies.

an answer to endless attempts at people-pleasing
For those of us whose unending desire to please, mostly to our own detriment, this is an excellent book to read. We are so easily taken for granted by those we are trying to endlessly please and the resulting anger related to this can be overwhelming. The anger can easily become directed at self with a sense of worthlessness for failing. This book can be important for us to read! I also recommend "Anxious to Please: 7 Revolutionary Practices for the Chronically Nice" by James Rapson & Craig English
