it worked well
For a homeschool 9th grade biology class (two children of friends), we cultured bacteria from hands, door knobs, the fridge handle, etc. We kept two free of introduced material so we would have something to check against. There were some very light growths in those cultures, but nothing like what they got off everything else. It was quite a lesson.

happy with petri dish kit
the kit arrived within the time frame and was new and complete. It contains some simple instructions but we got additional tips for growing the cultures from some internet searches. we are very happy with the results so far.

Super easy to use
These plates were great. I didn’t use them for anything sensitive - a science project for my kids - but worked great and heated water in the microwave without issue.

I was worried a little as I read some previous reviews from other customers regarding their ability to heat the agar to a proper temp, and the overall success rate of the seaweed agar . . . I shouldn't have. The materials arrived and within an hour I had everything set and ready to go for my class. Yesterday we swabbed, today we walked in and . . . BACTERIA IN EVERY DISH. You cannot go wrong with this product. Only criticism I have is . . . MAKE IT LESS EXPENSIVE . . .

Don't forget to set your autoclave at 121 degrees Celsius for 15 minutes!
I bought this kit for my son's science fair project. No bacteria would grow on the agar, however. Two possible reasons for this, I think: 1, the seaweed nutrient agar may not have been the best stuff to use for our experiment; 2, preparing the agar required the use of an autoclave at 121 degrees Celsius for 15 minutes. I didn't have one of those lying around the kitchen, so the agar may not have been prepared properly.Do you have an autoclave lying around your kitchen? I didn't think so. This kit is found in the Toys & Games section, but most toys and games don't require $220 accessories for sterilization, at least not children's toys. I'll admit I was surprised when I came to the autoclave requirement in the instructions. If you're working on a science fair project or looking for some experimentation at home, my suggestion would be to use the prepared agar/petri dish kits.
