Have installed for about 2 weeks. Drilling through the plastic fence took some finesse. The problem is you don't have much space to where you have the drill and the wood inside the plastic fence. In hind sight, I should have installed the lock a bit deeper on the fence post. There was room with the latch. As others have noted you cant slam the gate shut. The lock wont budge. You have to hold it open when you close and then release. But opens fine. I expect the kids will eventually break the pull cable so I would have liked some extra cable. Other than that it looks nice, works nice

works great. i did not use the plastic tube that came with it for the 4x4 i just drilled a big enough hole for it to go thru and it works great

Very nice lockable gate latch.

This is a very nice looking gate latch. I installed it on an older cedar fence and the installation was interesting. The latch needed to go on the inside of my fence, but the fencing boards add a half inch to the framing. This means the phalanges that go between the gate and fence need to screw in between the frame and face boards. The attachment hole is fixed, not a slot so there is no room for adjustment. This also made the hole for the tube very long to drill--you need not just a 5/8" drill bit, but a very long one. (It is pretty impossible to drill from both sides and meet.) Now that it's installed, it requires effort to push it closed and I'm hard pressed to imagine kids taking the time to do it.

Screws are complete garbage. The striker and latch have some type of coating that wears off and the lock will not operate without a lubricant. I’ve bought probably 20 of these locks and every one the screws years strip. If you buy be prepared to buy screws from the hardware store or return the lock. Do better Chinee.
