3 / Three Key Buttons Touchpad Clickpad Trackpad for Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen. 1 & 2 & 3 New X1 Carbon 2014 2015 Series Laptop

The product description says it's compatible with the gen3 though the physical characteristics are slightly different - most obvious are the physical buttons for left, center and right clicks vs the smooth single bar layout on the original.After opening up the laptop and removing the battery there were five screws securing the original trackpad, though this one only has holes for four. While attempting to insert the ribbon cable I noticed the connector on the trackpad was ever-so-slightly narrower than the ribbon. With a tiny bit of coaxing the cable did go in smoothly and the connector clicked shut, however from this moment on I have a dead trackpad.Interestingly, the trackpoint is also non-responsive. The buttons don't work either. Tried booting into Windows and applying some firmware upgrades but none were successful. I think I'll be stuck using an external mouse from now on.

The picture for the listing shows what looks to be a Synaptics trackpad. Unfortunately, this is an Alps trackpad that is made to look like a Synaptics. No matter what I tried, I could not get a driver to properly work that enabled all of the proper functions...and I have swapped in a number of these before, so I am familiar with the entire process. Not recommended.

Needed a mfg original part and that is what I got.
