Engrossing Read, but ...
.Reviewed by C J Singh (Berkeley, California).HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT: THE PURSUIT OF WAR CRIMINALS FROM NUREMBERG TO THE WAR ON TERROR is an engrossing book. Impressed with the authors' writing skills, so engrossed that I stayed home for the weekend unable to put the book down. Reads like a bestselling legal thriller by Scott Turow. (Turow received a Master of Fine Arts degree in fiction-writing at Stanford before entering Harvard Law School for his J D.)So why just three stars? On page 147, Nazi victims are identified as Serbs and Jews. The co-authors are UC Berkeley professors in-charge of the Law School's Human Rights Center, but fail to include the slaughter of the 1.5 million Romani people by the Nazis. My source? Please see my amazon-review of Ian Hancock's WE ARE THE ROMANI PEOPLE. Hancock, himself of British-Romani descent, is a long-time professor of Linguistics at the University of Texas, Austin, and widely regarded as the leading scholar of Romani Studies. Also the authors fail to include the Chinese slaughter of the Tibetan people. Contrast this with California's D-Representative Nancy Pelosi's leading a bi-partisan delegationt to meet Dalai Lama in india for re-affirmjng American support for the HUMAN RIGHTS of the TIBETAN PEOPLE.-- c j singh

An insightful, story-driven history of war crimes, human rights, and justice
An incredibly interesting and accessible book that uses people—from war criminals to war crimes investigators—to tell the history of international justice. This is a must read for anyone who cares about human rights and the long and complicated road to justice.
